LED Modification Needed
Hey Guys,
I got a Koito #10049-63819 4 led strip that is used for the marker lights on the 06 headlights. Wondering if anyone here could help me with replacing the 4 leds on the board to white rather than yellow. Im honestly not the best with this stuff, i get the concept, but dont want to mess up the exicution, let me know! And yes, i did PM Acree about it for those of you who have that come to mind first heh. Just asking as a little extra since he is pretty slammed right now i hear and looking to get this done ASAP.

i may be wrong, but on the back of the board you can see the saudering points?
i would imagine taking a sauder gun, melting that and taking the led off, replace, resauder
i could be wrong though

Hey James! I would advise against replacing the Koito LEDs with another kind. Since there are no specs available on the forward voltage etc of those LEDs, finding a replacement would be a hit or miss; you will never know if you are accidentally over-driving them.
Then there's the issue of reliability when it comes to aftermarket LEDs; especially white ones. I did a major LED project last winter (while car was stored) and added 6 white LEDs to each headlight (in addition to the amber ones you want to replace) and 15 to each reflector (which i smoked) to function as parking lights. I benchmarked them to the perfect voltage, used exactly the right resistors (resistance and wattage), and soldered them like a champ, yet out of 42 LEDs, almost 1/3 died within 3 months.
Acree has replaced OEM LEDs in the past; perhaps he can chime in with what success he has had, but my honest advice would be to the leave the Koito ones alone; if you replace them and even one of them goes out 6 months from now, that entire headlight would look bad. Plus I think the amber LEDs give a nice contrast to the bright white 06+ projectors and look really neat.
As for me, I have decided not to replace my 6 white LEDs in the headlights (not worth the delicate work) and instead make new lighted smoked reflectors only (cheap enough to do, and A LOT less hassle). This time, I will use voltage regulators on each side for added protection. I haven't yet decided whether those LEDs will be white again or amber (to match headlights).
EDIT: This was my project:

Thanks man! Ya, im still real intrested in trying to get this done as i really want to white it out, sort of goes with the theme of the project. I have LED side markers ive had for a year now and none of the LEDs have gone bad. Im praying i can have this same success. I dont hate the yellow, but i would much much prefer white at this point. Hopefully can get a hold of Acree, he has been out of touch. Thanks man, see ya soon dude!

Not sure if you saw my thread about my LEDs on my headlights. But yea, since 2 of them are not working...I might be changing all the amber ones to hyper white to go with the CCFL halo rings I'm going to have Lightwerkz install. He's going to take a look at the LEDs when he opens them up. If all goes well with my project...I'll let you know which type LEDs he replaced them with.
