most hardtops are not retractable, they are installed with latches. That hardtop above looks butt ugly, even the stock soft top looks better.

If it's anything like the Viper ones, I rather buy a coupe AND a convertible cause they run like 10k.

In order for Nissan to make a retractable hard top, the whole design of the mechanics operating and stowing the top would have to change. If you look at the way the Roadster soft top functions, it is like no other hard top out there that I have seen. All of the other hard tops I've seen utilize what I call a trunk lid tilt back where the entire trunk lid hinges back to give the top room to collapse and stow under it. The Z's top folds the back side of the top up first to allow the tonneau to open up to accept the folded top for storage. In order for the back of the top to fold up first, it has to intrude into the cabin, easily done with fabric. If this were a hard top panel, it would take a fancy (therefore expensive) mechanism to slide it into the cabin without bumping the occupants head to allow the tonneau to flip up. All of these separate panels would also have to seal together and be water tight. That's why we probably won't see a retractable hardtop ZR. And if we do, it will cost!

to the OP - STOP SMOKING CRACK! You bought a $40k car, not a 60k or an 80k car lol....

Drop tops only comes on really high end and expensive car. Plus if you wanted a hard top THAT BAD should gone for a coupe or better yet shouldn't have bought a Z at all.

Actually I don't think this looks half bad:

I think it looks ok... I'm not looking for retractable top but an easy removable would be killer! The s2000 with a hard top looks great. I think with the right design the Z could pull it off.

not true. i don't think the G6 fits your classification of a high end expensive car that has a drop top, yet it has one
