Default Cabin Air Filter

So, I went to my local Nissan dealer today. My goal was to buy a cabin air filter. Last few weeks, I have been smelling odor when I first start the A/C. I ask the parts guy and he looks up in the computer. After couple minutes, he replies with a surprised face,

Parts Guy: "I don't really see a cabin filter for your car."
Me: "Wow, no cabin filter! You would think they put a cabin filter in a 30K dollar car.

Parts Guy: " yeah, that's what I thought."
Me: "Does the newer Z have them"

Parts Guy: "(typing/keyboard chatters) Nope, not even the new Zs have them.
Me: "Wow!"

Parts Guy: "Well, we have this product that we use on the cars without cabin filter....blah blah blah...."

well, then he sold me a spray of some sort that I can spray in the vents by wipers and get the smell out ..... I bought it and went home with a surprised outcome....

So, our car really do not have cabin air filter???

Oh btw, I searched https://my350z.com/forum/search.php?...=6903715&pp=30 and no results related to cabin air filter.

Yes we really do have no in cabin air filter from what I've searched. Normally there would be an in cabin filter behind the glove compartment, but since ours is behind the passenger seat I do not think they would put one there.

All other cars have in cabin filters which are behind the glove up front, do any other cars have glove backs in the back like the z?

If I recall correctly, S2000s have glove box in the back between two seats.

I'd like to know about the spray as well. When i run vents only (no a/c), it smells like feet. Yuck.

when you re done using the car turn the ac to recirculate. this will close the vents keeping moisture out of the hvac box. when moisture gets in there and sits it does not smell so great. this is waht you are smelling when you jump in the car and turn on the blower. my old explorer smelled really bad when i forgot to close the vents after driving.

Want a tip to prevent odor build up? The odor is from mildew / mold / fungus whatever smells building up from the moisture..

therefore before shutting your car off, turn the a/c off but leave fan on to let it run the temps down a bit, or turn the heat on if you really don't want the smell. Worked for all 3 cars i've owned.

Don't buy the spray at a dealership.. go to your local wal-mart, buy a spray bottle of your trusty lysol disinfectant and blast away.

Price: $9.59 (incl. tax)

Product Info: BG Frigi-Fresh professional grade is formulated to quickly and effectively remove foul, musty odors from automobile air conditioning systems. It kills mold, mildew and other odor-producing organisms that grow in the evaporator core and housing. Powerful deodorizers in BG Frigi-Fresh keeps the automobile interior smelling fresh and clean.

Directions: With engine running and air conditioner on maximum speed and cooling, spray BF Frigi-Fresh into the air intake vent. Hold can 8 to 12 inches (20 to 30 cm) above the vent while spraying four to six seconds. Make sure spray tip is pointed directly at the intake vent before spraying. The recirculating system will pick up the product and the entire system will be deodorized in seconds. Shut off engine and air conditioner after applying the product.

I am going to try it tomorrow morning and post results here.
