"Free" plate mount

"Free" plate mount
Like many, I hate the idea of drilling holes in my car just to mount a license plate I don't want on the front. I've seen the various quality offerings our supporting vendors have as options and while they are fine, I'm a DIY kinda guy. I figured this can't be that hard, especially since the grill has that little piece that comes out for the tow hook. This cost me nothing as I had some corner brackets, bolts and a piece of aluminum stock sitting around.
Here's the plate mounted. I like it being lower....
Here's a picture of the back. Note, yes, I screwed up and drilled in the wrong spot. The replacement part from Nissan is like $13 so maybe, someday (when the wife notices - its her car - I'll replace it. As it is, you really can't tell when its on....
I'm planning on getting a "Z" plate bracket one of these days. I think it may be enough thicker that you won't see the bolts as easily. If not, I'll take a trip to Home Depot and get some bolts that don't stick out of the back so far. The bolts as they sit are low enough that if she hits something, it won't drive them in the paintwork. But, if she hits anything hard enough to bend anything, the bolts will be the least of my worries.
Just thought I'd share a little DIY project....
