Default New to 350z and new to the website. Newbie questions!

Hey guys, first off I've found a lot of information on this website and really have been a lurker for the last month or two but decided to register yesterday since I'm getting ready to make my purchase. (I'm eyeballing 2 now)

I read a lot like I said, but I'm not too sure on a few things as far as cost goes since I've never modified a car before. (Im driving a nissan maxima atm if that gives you an idea)

Anyways, I fell in love with the 350z and decided I wanted to do a few things over the course of a year or two.

#1 - Wheels. I REALLY want to change them out and unsure of the total cost before I go into it. I saw one similar to one I found on the forums a while back, and the one on the forums gave me a refresher on what look I wanted to go for.

How much would something like that cost on average? Is that lowered? If I lower it, do I risk bottoming out and how much would an average lowering kit cost.

#2 - Identify this rear spoiler please. Theres small skirts on the rear bumper that I really like the look of. Also, what material is the best for spoilers? I'm not adding ANYTHING else besides spoiler and maybe those skirts in this pic.

Is that ok if I do that? I don't want a full kit, but would it look awkward with just those?

#3 - Intake. I've seen a few around. I want the car to sound good. Exhaust systems are probably 1+ year down the road. Does changing the intake going to affect the sound of the car as much as I want it to? I don't mind spending 400-500$ on an intake.

#4 - HID's and Xenon lights. Do they make that big a difference? Cost wise, how much do they go for and installs.

#5 - I already know what type of dvd/gps/ipod connect I want, but do they work with the iphone or should I purchase a seperate ipod just for the car. Preferably I want it to work with the iphone =(

#6 - Model. Although I've eyed a couple, I'm really going for somewhat some performance but more of a casual car I can drive around that looks great and sounds great. (audio + car). Should I be targeting enthusiast? Touring? 35th Anniversary? etc.

For now, those are my questions. Thanks in advance to those who are willing to help with my questions.

Those wheels are Volk LE37s, and I believe they are discontinued, the lip kit is the Nismo kit, the wing is made of FRP.
Good luck buddy!

If your going to do the rear add-ons and the spoiler, then you should do a full bodykit, because otherwise it will look stupid. Definitely at least a lip kit, they go for quite cheap so no reason not to. I also think those wheels are discontinued, but you can still get the TE37 which are basically the same, but without the polished lip. You'd be looking at about 3.5 grand for wheels and tires if you shop around for deals.
The car has been lowered, and depending on how much you want to get lowered, you can get lowering springs for around 200-300 bucks.
Intake is pretty much your choice. They all do the same job, and if your keeping the stock exhaust, they'll all sound about the same. My choice is HKS, but that's because i'm an HKS nuthugger!
If your only going for a cruiser then get the full spec on e with heated leather seats and Bose sound system. Might aswell get the creature comforts.

I'm on my lunch break so I'll help you out with as many ?'s as I can:

#1) I agree with GT47R, those particular wheels pictured are Volk LE37t (gloss black with machined lip), and they have been discontinued for a little while. Some vendors may stil have some in stock, or you may be able to find someone in the Marketplace selling a set. Volk (made by Rays Engineering) is one of the higher-end wheels you will see around here on 350z's and most will say they are very high quality. Pricing will vary by vendor, but you are probably looking at ~$800 per wheel give or take a few bucks, then probably ~$250 to $300 per tire depending on sizing / brand / type. Then figure $50 to $100 for aftermarket lug nuts, plus some extra $$ for center caps if they do not come with the wheels.

#3) Best bang-for-buck intake is JWT Popcharger. There have been countless debates around here about which is better, Popcharger vs. Stock Intake w/ K&N drop-in filter vs. 'Your Intake Here', and I'd say performance wise, Popcharger and K&N drop-in seem to be about even. But if you want increased sound, Popcharger would be the winner. Probably $110 to $120 depending who you buy from.

#4) I have a 2006 model which gets the bi-xenon HID headlights from the factory. Having previously owned a Ford Taurus (obviously non-HID) and a Mazda6 (with aftermarket HID bulbs in non-HID projectors), I can say that if I can help it I will never buy a car without factory HID again. In my opinion the difference between halogen and HID is night and day, so to speak. For 2003-2005 models you will need to buy the Enthusiast trim or higher in order to get HID, but only the low beams are HID. High beams will be standard halogen bulbs. I think most will agree that the 2006-2008 bi-xenon HID (standard with all trim levels) is brigher with a sharper cutoff and wider range than 2003-2005 HID output.

#6) I believe the most popular model across all years is the Enthusiast trim level. It gives you cruise control (not available on the lowest 'Base' model) and limited slip differential from the factory (also not available with 'Base' trim). Again, 2003-2005 models only offered HID headlights in Enthusiast and higher trim levels. 'Track' trim will get you Rays forged wheels and Brembo brakes, but if you are mainly concerned with cruising around town you don't need the Brembos (other than for looks), and you don't need the Rays wheels since you want to go aftermarket anyway. There is also a Bose sound upgrade available, but you would be better off putting the money toward a decent aftermarket setup which will sound 10 times better than the Bose. IMO Bose is better off in the house, not the car.

Hope this helps.

So far, I've deduced I don't need enthusiast beacuse cruise control doesn't matter to me nor does LSD. The bose is out the door already, I don't need it as I get accommodations for many electronic dealers through work.

How much are HID's anyways? The two I'm looking at is a base 2006 model that is 5 grand less than the 35th anniversary edition I'm looking at. (35th = 22k @ 25k miles vs 34k miles on the 2006 base)

Wheels sound expensive but they change the look so much! Ugh... the choices.

Still need to know what spoiler is on that, it isn't a nismo kit... the skirts may be but yea.

Thanks for the input guys, minus post #2 since I told him I've already browsed the website a few times.
