Has anyone tried to remove the clear bra like guards on the rocker panels?
I was wondering how hard they would be to remove. I recently had my rocker panels re-painted and the bodyshop put these guards back on. I think I prefer the car without them, plus the fact that there are bubbles under the guards and I don't feel like fighting with them to fix the problem. What purpose do they serve anyway?
Should I risk taking the pain off with them if I try to remove those guards myself? The paint job is less than 2 weeks old.
Thanks

I waited for a hot day, let the car sit in the sun for a few hours, then just peeled them off. They're VERY sticky, but come off with no residue. You could (CAREFULLY!!) try a hair dryer to soften the adhesive. I'd be a little nervous about pulling them off of "fresh" paint, though; you might wanna ask the shop to take em off.
I haven't figured out what they do either, but I know the car looks much cleaner without them. Once dirt/wax starts getting in the edges, they really stand out. I was at a Z meet where a few of the cars had body kits applied over the stickers - it just looked wrong.

Well I took it to th edealer to have them removed and sure enough, just as he got to the end below the rocker panel, I hear this tearing noise and the protectant comes off with a big patch of paint
The guy looks heart broken at this point, pauses for a miute and then says "Ah just bring it in and we'll paint it again for you." for a second I thought he wasn't going to paint it, but he was real good about it and it is going in next week to be done.
These guys are going to be so glad to get rid of me. The first time I went in, they were supposed to paint my bumper and passenger side rocker panel. They did a pretty crappy job of my bumper and painted the wrong rocker panel. So then they re paint the bumper and pain the right rocker panel and then I come back and have him remove the rocker panel guard (the other one was on back order) and now he has to paint it again. I bet you that guy was just wishing I had tried to pull it off myself.

I've added the clear 3M bra kit to several areas of my Z. I road race and the front Z bra just doesn't protect it enough. Some like it, some don't. Like anything--the world would be boring if everyone like the same things.
