FINALLY redline Z gets long overdue makeover
FINALLY!!
My car is currently in the shop.. been waiting FOREVER for my car to look nice again. Started out with a small fender bender, and an autobody guy ripping me off.. then had my aerosync bumper damaged on the highway..

then waited a ridiculously long time for gruppe-s to ship my new bumper.. ended up canceling it.. and they charged me for the cancellation after they misquoted a ship date by over a month!
I ended up going with an 08 bumper on my 03..
took it into a shop and they RUINED my car!!! i took the car back halfway in between their work..

HORRIBLE isn't it?
$900 in work for a front bumper and fender turns into over $2500 in DAMAGE!! no help from the Ohio attorney general.. and lawyer fees are ridiculous to try and recover this..
so I waited..
until I found a hidden shop up the road that told me they'd do it for $1300.. WOW
So in a week or so I'll have my car back.. 08 bumper, with painted black lip and black pearl emblems front and rear..

How did they ruin it? It looks like you took the car away from them before they even sprayed it? Looks like they were wet sanding and you took it before they could clean and paint. But from the pics I don't see anything wrong except for the black bumper with the paint that peeled all off and the overspray in the engine bay, and maybe the headlight/front bumper area not aligned properly.
That white residue if you can't get it off get a gray scotch brite and wash it off with that, should get the wet sanded **** off.

Good luck on your build. Hopefully you get everything done.
I should have explained what they did properly..
If you noticed in the first pic, the only thing that needed paint was the bumper and the passenger fender.
This guy painted the hood, the passenger door, both fenders, and the bumper..
not to mention the overspray.. the fender liners, my horns, the radiator, the grille..
He told me it would take about a day or 2, day 3 I went in to look at my car and he had wet sanded through paint... and I saw how he sprayed everything without masking anything off.
Day 5 I went back in and he said he had to start all over because he had wet sanded through something again..
I had already missed a day of work because he was taking longer than expected, and my car looked worse each time I visited.

man sorry to hear about your horror story...i suppose he wanted to paint the whole front half so it blended better in the end. apparently someone needs to reteach that gentleman how to wet sand!!!

There wasn't much I could do.. lawyers wouldn't take it on an incentive basis, the cost of a lawyer upfront would be the price of fixing the car and he couldn't guarantee I'd recover anything.
One guy said I could claim a lot of money from this guy, but he was a huge Cincy Bengals fan so I didn't trust him =)
Anyway the horror is finally over.. waiting on it to be complete!

Good luck. hope next shop gets it done to your liking. Red's a ***** to match from the red cars I've had body work done on. I now have a policy of: once car gets bodywork done, car gets sold.
Too many bad experiences.

red is such a ***** to paint... i bet you the bumper came out darker than the rest of the car and he tried to match it... my guess is he used gray primer..when u spray red or yellow you can see right through the paint and see the primer.. in reds case, red primer should be used.. i hope it comes out the way its supposed to.. post up them pix when its done

But for a painter to burn through while wetsanding to buff that was a mistake on his part, BUT He was trying to do good for you and repaint the whole thing, a lot of detailers I've seen burn through and don't tell anyone and just try to cover it up, when the customers see it the painter gets blamed sucks lol.
I understand what you're saying.. but then wouldn't he have to paint both doors and not just one..
and was all the over spray supposed to blend the body panels with the inside of my engine bay? =)

if you dont like the work, you should post the information of the shop so others can avoid a problem.
why didnt they remove the panels altogether? seems like you got a lazy *** shop, or you were just looking to pay the bare minimum.

Granted now you don't have to "mix" paint like you used to...can get it "ready to spray" that matches (in theory) the OE color. But they still complain about reds. I'm not a painter, so its all here say. I just used to do a lot of work for body shops....
Funny, I've heard many a painter say red is horrid to paint.

you still need to mix regardless of paint codes. You need to spray test panels to ensure a proper color match. You can get "ready to spray" mixes, but they won't properly match. Redline is a piece of cake compared to the tri-stage colors like DB and PPW....
I agree red is so much easer to paint compared to ANY tri-stage pearl paints, especially a pearl white. (the new paint usually comes out too white compared to original paint)
And I've been painting cars for a little bit (4 years) and no matter how close a color match is a little blended is always needed if the customer wants to pay a little extra, given that the paint will nearly be identical but to a trained eye it will never match unless blended. IF your painting a whole panel then should blend into the touching panels. Example paint a whole fender, blend into the hood, door, bumper, and A pillar.
For the question about why not painting both doors, I do not know bc your pictures don't show. But maybe the passenger fender had some damage near the door so he had to blend into that door, but for the driver fender all he had to do was scuff it and blend the area touching the front bumper.
