Window Tinting
Well...
I want to get the windows tinted on my Z. What percent is good since I see there are many different ones people do. I live in Chicago, IL and it doesn't get too hot. I am more doing it for looks. I want to see out the window clearly at night. My parents had a Dodge Caravan and tint was pretty good. You couldn't see in but you could see pretty good out of it. Something like that would be good. Maybe darker tint along sides and rear and a lighter tint on the windshield.

5% tint is the darkest. The lower the number, the darker the tint. I have 35% on all but the windshield. Have no problem seeing out the back at night.

I didn't know that. Well then 35% it is. Sides and rear only.

I was a little worried bout going to dark... so i put 20% all around, cept for the front. Its dark enough so people standing outside the door cant see anything placed on the floor. But not dark enough to for people to know your looking at them... i am satisfied with 20... but if i had to do it again, i would have gone for the limo tint, which is the next step up...
I have 20% on the sides, I have to roll my window down to REALLY see behind me for backing up. for driving, I can see generally whats back there; but in reverse trees, curbs, and edges of driveway become a bit hard to distinguish.
5% is opaque at night. I can see headlights, and street lights, thats about it....
35% is good if you wanna actually see out of it IMO(at night).

I'd say around $100 dollars for the rear 3 windows at a reputable shop using quality film.
Also, make sure to have them tint under the 3rd brake light. It's a lot cleaner looking IMO. It's possible to tint underneath without removing it but I would pop it off to make things simpler.

% of tint doesnt typicly affect the price, 90% of the cost is labor anyway, and I doubt there is even a price difference for the different films.
I paid 150 for it. that included a 20$ discount for it being a Z. so 170. they did a very very good job, and from what Ive read, that seems to be a bit on the low side.
150-200 is reasonable IMO, try to see some of their work before hand, watch them apply it to someone elses car(they shouldnt mind you watching, I had a full convo with the people that did my car while they did it) they should definitly offer a life time gaurentee, and their work should be basicly perfect(why accept anything less?)
make sure they cut the film to the edge, and that the film goes below the seal on the windows(if the seam keeps rubbing everytime you open your door, it could roll, so you want the seam below the seal even when the window is fully up.
hope that helps you. might try the area forum too and see where others in your area went and if they reccomend them.
