Default my new pshop... thoughts inside

Well, I know my photoshop skills aren't great seeing as how I've had it for 3 days now, but take it for what its worth... enjoy

PS: I tinted front sidemarkers, headlights, rear signal lights, painted side-mirror valences, calipers, gewalt evo rims had to make black from silver, shaved door handles and side emblems...

I have a much higher res shot if anyone wants it.

I like the wheels as long as they are the right offset (flush with the fenders) and as wide as possible, same go for tires -- choose a quality tire that is sticky, stiff, aggressive, and wide! I like the calipers as long as they are Brembos, if you want to do it right.. powdercoat them. Personally, I am not a big fan of showy calipers unless they are multi-piston. Sliding calipers arent worth accentuating.

As for the lighting, I think function comes before form.. the headlights should not be black, thats very `80s-ish and reminds me of the old GTB light covers they used to sell (and amazingly, still do sell). I think a black housing headlamp and a set of smoked side-markers would match the mix a LOT better, and still retain their functionality. I think the rear tail lights should be professionally painted with a darker tint if you are going to go with dark accents on that car.

I am not a big fan of the door-handles being removed, you could always powdercoat them to make them darker -- no need to shave them unless you are into that kind of stuff. Other than that, the car looks really good!

heh don't worry, thats my crappy attempt at the clear corners headlight... I couldnt tint just the amber strip so i figured wtf, ill tint the whole thing. the rims are 18x9 and 18x10, and fit flush with 2mm spacers in the rear and with no spacers in the front. im leaving the tailights alone as I think they look good as-is. thanks for all the comments, keep em coming

cant powder coat the handles on account of em being plastic, bummer eh?

you can paint them, but personally Im hesitant to do that, could chip scratch, yes I know they must be painted now, but I donno, guess Im just in the thinking if it aint broke dont fix it. not that I wouldnt mind some nice dark bronze handles to match my wheels, but I have a better method than painting in mind.

Great work! I'm thinking about painting (not powder coating) my Ray's Engineering Track Wheels to either gun metal or dark grey! Do you know how much they should cost to paint them, and wether it's better to paint or powder coat them? Any help is greatly appreciated, THANKS!!!

PS. My Track Ed. 350Z is also a "Redline".

definately powdercoat them, as it will last longer. I would suggest some type of glossy black powder, but of course that is my opinion which may differ from yours. It should run roughly 200 to powdercoat all four wheels.

How do they prep the wheels before powder coating them (e.g. sand blast...etc)? My shop wants to charge me $300 to "paint" all 4 wheels! He said it'll cost more to powder coat due to prep work?

hes full of ****, go somewhere else. If you want it done right and you want your wheels to last, go somewhere and get them powdercoated. Should run about 200. I'm not sure of the exact terminology, but I do believe they sandblast the wheels before powdercoating instead of just painting over the existing paint that contains impurities...

They use glass beeds instead of sand. They can control the scars better since the size of the beeds in known before hand. I am not sure about the $200 price though. I remember seeing another thread where someone had it done. They paid more than $200, partly because they used a special color mix. However, I might be wrong on the price, so take it with a grain of salt.

I did extensive research on the net and places around me charge 80 to 120 to paint and clearcoat 1 wheel. It's kind of not far from new wheel! I can't find any place to do powdercoat.

So it's a useless advise to go somewhere elses and look for $200/4...

And why do you think powdercoat is better? Our wheels stock painted now, and I don't have any problem with them.

I was quoted 30-80$ per performance rim(not sure if thatd vary to a track rim, Id imagine not...) the price depended how difficult it was to get the material off.

powdercoating is more resistant to impact than paint, as in it wont chip or flake, or anything like that. however its not resistant to chemical wear. this is why most rims come powdercoated with a clear coat over it. the clear coat protects the powder from whatever liquids you may drive through.

obviously not the cheap way, but IMO the best way.

Hey, I was thinking of keeping my stock rims and either powdercoating them or painting them also. Is this ok for show for about a year till I can get some nice Volk's?

I really like the shaved handles since I am doing show. How much work is involved and how much would a body shop charge to shave off the handles?

Also, when there are no handles how do you open the door?

I am newbie to the shaved handles though I seen them before. They just look bad @$$.

I was quoted $200 at one place and $320 at another to get my wheels powder coated. I checked out both facilities, and some of there products and they were very comparable so it's obvious I am going to go with the place for $200. Keep on shopping Andy.
