Picking a Paint Shop & Prepping

Picking a Paint Shop & Prepping
Hey Guys,
I'm considering getting my car repainted in a few months. My paint isn't too terrible, but it has some chips and a mismatched fender, and I'd love to have a paintjob with nothing to complain about. The fender was mismatched when I bought the car, and is only really noticeable in certain light -- but once you notice it, you notice it. It's a "dude, your fender is the wrong color." not a "Hmmm...is that fender a different color?"
I plan on getting a kit, and probably a CF hood before I take it in to get painted. I want the shop to paint and install the kit too. I just want a respray of PPW right now, but I'm considering doing PPW with a black top.
I've never had a car with good stock paint repainted like this. Is there anything I need to know going in? Is there anything specific I should look for (other than a history of quality) from a shop before picking one? Is there any prep work that I should absolutely do myself? I'd rather drop it off as is, with all of the aftermarket stuff, and say "here".
Secondly, I know it depends on the shop, but what would you guess is a ballpark figure? (Or, what have YOU paid to get this done?)
Thanks guys!

i've heard ranges of 5k+ for a whole car. I've gotten all my paint work done at a place called Boitnotts, off of Rt 4 in fairfield. They are top notch, perfect color match on my body kit.

Heh, I had them paint a protege I had back in the day. It turned out pretty good considering the car, and the cost. I did all of the prep work myself though... including sanding off the original paint, primering, and wetsanding. I think I'd murder someone for having maaco paint a Z, though!
