Default Hood Adjustment

So... making a long story short, had to get the car's hood repainted. After a botched scratch repair by one of those mobile guys, I ended up a body shop (True to Form) and had them redo the hood. I'll give them a B+. The botched portion was fixed and the repaint and clear is good. Some stuff under the paint, but you need to look very, very, very hard. Now... to my problem. They removed the hood to do the work. Did not want to worry about overspray and car damage by leaving it on and repainting the hood. They put the hood back on the way it apparently came off. However, the gaps between the lights are not even. They are off by about an eighth of any inch. It is noticable if you are looking. I took it back to the body shop and the estimator could see the problem but, in essence, told me I am **** and believes it to be TOO risky to try and adjust the hood over to compensate. What else was interesting is that one of the Shop guys came out and immediately saw the problem. But, after the estimator told me they were not going to adjust it, the shop guy, without comment, turned around and went back in.

I then took the car to the dealership and asked if its something they could fix. I am willing to pay. The writer, who I have known for years, did not want to touch it. He said they would just take it to a body shop.

Now, my minor dilema... Do I attempt to fix my self with the help of a bud, or do I just go to another body shop and ask them to make the quick fix. I believe I can do the work, but would like to read or see a video of how its done first. Any opinions would be welcome!! Also, if I would have a body shop make this ever so slight adjustment, what could I expect to pay.

Thanks for reading!!

there are bolts on the hinge. just LOOSEN (dont remove) both of them and push them on the side that need the gap close. a few push would do. do it gently until it is fix. same problem happen to me a few months back

Kevincat... sounds pretty easy. Is this a one, two or three person job?

Ideally it would be nice to have a person at each hinge to hold the hood in place while you loosen/tighten the nuts. I am sure it could be done with just one extra person if that is all you can find.

I am really surprised they didn't want to make the adjustment for you. It is not hard at all.

It's an easy 2-person job, but it's not impossible to do it yourself.

It certainly is a do-it-yourself job, though.

Kevincat explained it well.

Expensive favor...

Do you not have any friends that would be happy just to help a buddy out for free?
