Unhappy Door edge strips fell off grill!!!

I put the truck door edge strips (from Pep Boys) on my front grill. A few days later, I looked at the grill and they are gone!

There are a few globs of the adhesive stuck to the bottom section of the front bumper (below the grill), but other than that no sign of the edge strips.

I can't imagine someone stole them, so I'm thinking they must have blown off. Has anyone else had this problem??

Out of the 3 cars I have done only mine have stuck. Well I lost one strip last week on the track at Roebling Road. But I have had it on there a good 8 months. I think it is time for a new set. The best $7 appearance mod out there, IMO.

If you find that they keep coming off, just put a dab of superglue on the ends. That worked for me, and it still will come off if you really want it to. I tried it already.

One of mine came off this weekend and I had to reinstall with some extra I had. One end was coming up slightly before my trip. This time during install I tied some string around it at about 4 different points to hold it tight for a few days to get a better bond. If that fails, I'm going with the superglue

put a small bead of silicone on there before you squeeze it on, be be prepared that it will never come off. not without a fight anyway.

you can find it at homedepot, GE makes good stuff, you want silicone I (NOT II).

Ares,

A bead all the way across the strip? Or just at the ends ... ?

btw, I didn't the silicone bonded well to plastics?

just put the tightners at the ends. i forgot what they're called. you put one of the ends through an opening and it tightens it. fastners? i don't know.

For this grill? It's just adhesive. It looks like with the heat they expand so much that they just fall off ...

The other grills look easy, but I don't know how to get the front end up in the air so I can take that ABS plastic cover off the bottom to get in there. I figure I can try this first, and if that doesn't work I'll look into how I can get the front end off the ground.

It's not so much cost as it is ease of installation ... no need to jack up the front end to get it on there.

Make sure you clean the surface really well. I used some Prep-All / Wax & Grease Remover .. used before painting. So far .. all is well ... but only been a week... ha!

I cleaned the surface as well ... and one of the strips stayed on ... the other two fell off ... twice. Going to try the silicon trick ... wondering why Silicon I and not II though? The Clear Silicon I that I found was for Kitchen and Bath and max rated to 400F.

I've had mine for about 5-6 months with no problems..... until summer hit. It has been about 100 degrees outside and that glue gets soft with the heat. I have already lost one this summer. Oh well, it's ony $6 to replace it.

I think it's heat related here too ... they just expand and drop ... wonder why it doesn't happen when you use it on the doors?

Black zip ties on the ends, will do the trick and blend in with the black grill. Mine on for a year, but lose now. Also some chrome is peeling, so I will replace very soon.

Good Luck!
