Auto-dimming rear view mirror + tint

Auto-dimming rear view mirror + tint
My auto dimming rear view mirror always worked fine turning green when direct light hit it. Then I tinted my rear, and now when people are behind me the light doesn't seem "that" bright but my mirror doesn't turn green anymore
.
I'm am almost sure its because of the tint, but I just wanted to confirm that it is the tint causing this situation, and it is completely normal.
BTW, yes the auto - dimming feature is on. And the tint is a metallic nickel color with a 20% grade in the rear.
