replacing shift knob
I have the nismo titanium gt shift ****. went to two dealers in northern va, and neither of them could remove the stock ****. One told me it wouldn't come off, and the other couldn't get it off. The one that couldn't get it off printed out a paper that said i have to lift the boot, put channel locks around the bottom, and twist the shift **** with another pair of pliars. I know some of you guys have removed them, so i am wondering if it is as much trouble as they claim.
Thanks.
Thanks.

yes and no
ive had 2 different nismo ***** on my Z the CF and the titanium
ok the stock **** is what they call thread locked on there.
alot of dealerships end up breaking the stock **** getting it off.
it is importand that you clamp the linkage or you will screw up the transmission. for some reason mine wasnt on there that good to start with so mine came off fairly easy. the my dealership did have to clamp my linkage but it didnt take to much force to get it off. the 2 nismo ***** i had didnt lock like the stock so they just screwed right off. i didn t have to do any of those steps. i even did both myself.
if you really want the **** off tell the dealership to do what it takes. trust me it will come off. but i dont know what shape it will be in though but if you like the nismo one it no big deal.
let me know how it turns out and post pics of you it!!!!!

before careful not to screw on it too tight when installin the Nismo GT shift ****, I turned it too tight and when I was driving, I think I broke the thread or something, it is lose now...so I gotta retire her for show use only....
just odn't want you to make the same mistake I did

i will keep that in mind if i ever replace it...can't get up the nerve to do it myself yet. When you replace yours, did you have to lift up the plastic area around the boot?

I actually did mine yesterday. Had to lift the boot- the whole plastic piece including climate controls. Just grab the ring around the shift boot, nearest to the ebrake, and pull up towards the nav compartment.
Under the boot is some white felt- lift the felt material and there is a rubber boot beneath that. I then folded down the upper portion of the rubber boot so I could get the the vice grips on the stick itself- clamp the stick tightly (you don't want this to move). I then used another pair of vice grips on the original shift ****.
It was a pain in the *** to break it but it finally started to twist.
When I started to turn the shift **** I noticed the boot itself was twisting. I then had to loosen the boot by removing the 8 gold screws underneath so the boot could spin freely. Once this was done it came off pretty easily.
PM me if anyone has questions.

Removing the console cover was easy, it is removing the knod that is a pain.
Thanks.

Finally!!! I put the new shift **** on. It wasn't too bad once I got the pliars and channel locks to it. To you guys that have replaced it, how did you get the boot to stay up with the shifter?
Question. I installed the Nismo brushed aluminum ****. When installing, I put the black rubber finishing gasket on then the aluminum shifter ****...seems to sit in there to low...was ther suppose to be some sort of sleave that goes in betwwen shifter **** and rubber finishing gasket?
