PermaPlate clear bra - any experiences?
I just bought a new gold roadster and will pick it up in Miami this weekend. I asked the dealer if they kneew of someone who can do the clear bra thing, they recommended a company/product called PermaPlate - installed $699.
Anyone have any knowledge/experience with PermaPlate? Hope it's just another private label for the 3M stuff....

Hi John,
My Name is Frank O'Grady, and I am an installer for the Clear Bra, you are looking for. The product is made by 3M, and comes Pre-Cut for your car. I am flying to Miami this Friday, and leaving Next Thursday. I will be driving from Miami on Thursday afternoon back to New Jersey.
I could do your car for you right at the dealer before you leave with it, or I could meet you at your home in NC on my way back to New Jersey. If you are interested in any information, Please don't hesitate to contact me via e-mail, or phone listed below.
You should read a post put up by a member named SixRb6. I did his car for him about two weeks ago, and he posted comments the install I did for him. Either way, Good Luck to you with your new Z!

...but to actually answer your question
Perma Plate is the name brand for a paint sealant that many dealerships sell that they decptively call "clear coat", as if they are actually sending it to a body shop to get another coat of clear painted on it. they sell this wax job you can get at from any auto detailer for $100-150 for more than a professional clear bra install. I work for a dealership that sells their full perma plate interior/exterior package for $1200
dealerships love this because it only cost them around $50 to have their detailers apply it, but its really just wax, it will not stop the chips, scratches, and general sand blasting thats going to start as soon as start driving your car. Hope that answers your question

I am scheduled to pick up the Z in Miami (actually, Kendall Nissan just south of Miami) on Friday 10/17. I was planning to drive back to NC with a stopover or two. Sounds like you're arriving that day and could not get it done at the dealership unless you arrive in Miami Thursday.
Seems like the best way would be to do it in NC. I live just north of Spartanburg, and work about 60 miles NW of Charlotte. Maybe the most sane way to do this is to have you stop off at either place (your convenience) on your drive back? Or maybe I can just pick the car up later on Friday? What time could you have it done by on Friday if I moved my trip back a bit?
Let me know, because I definitely want the 3M stuff, and not some sort of hard wax...
my email is john@laninga.com and cell is 828.289.9314. Let's work it out.
And I read the post already, great testimonial, and I'm ready to have it done. Certainly would like to get the car protected as soon as possible.
