Default Removed rear '350Z' badge - did I screw up???

Well...I decided I liked the look of some photos I took of the back of my car with the '350Z' badge photoshopped out so I removed the badge with floss and after a lot of sweat, was able to remove all the foam and adhesive left behind.

There was a clear outline of the bage left in the paint - the paint underneath where the badge was was nice and shiny with a dull 'halo' around where the numbers / letter had been.

So...I got out the cutting compound and gently tried to remove any crap which was on the paint.

However, there's still an outline although much less obvious (I took a photo but it's not visible in it...).

My question - should I persist with a little more hand applied cutting paste followed by polishing with an orbital polisher or should I just polish and hope that the remaining 'halo' disappear during polishing.

Last thing I want to do is permanently damage the paint and end up needing the rear repainted...

Thanks,

Davy.

Always use the least aggressive approach. I would try polishing with the random orbital and see how it turns out.

I used turtle wax polishing compound to remove the remaining adhesive. I had a slight outline of where the numbers were as well. Over time while washing the car it will slowly go away.

Davy - the previous owner had a magnetic satellite antenna on the roof of my car which I removed. It left an "outline" of "dirty" paint stain. Although not as complex as yours, I used Meguiar's Scratch X 2.0 (very lightly 2-3 times) to get it out. If you use this combined with a clay bar should help quite a bit. Good luck.

Is there holes under the rear badge? Or is it only held on by 3M? 2003 model btw.

I didn't remove the burger - just the '350Z' badge on the left of the trunk lid

Hatch or convertible?? The convertible is just 3m tape, if it's the hatch then it has the holes underneath.

It might be that the paint under the badge has not faded yet, as the rest of the car paint has.

Well, I invested in a polisher and some Scratch-X. The area where the badge was is now mirror smooth - absolutely flawless. Sweet!!

But...the drawback is that I'll now have to do the rest of the car at the weekend - I can't have one small area looking perfect and the rest of the car looking 'ordinary'...!

Default 350z Emblems (front & back)

I just wanted to be very clear before I started removing everything. I am not a big fan of chrome so I want to remove all the badges, the Nissan on the front and back bumper, as well as the 350z emblem, and then nismo emblem. Are all of these held on by 3m tape? I don't care if there are any holes behind the emblems because I am going to put them right back on after I paint them.

I've read all the forums that say the best choice for removing is the blow dryer and dental floss. Just wanted to make sure I am not pulling at an emblem at is being held on by screws!

Thanks in advance!

wow wtf I just realized after 6 months of ownership that my car doesn't have a "350z" badge on the rear. Is this normal for a 2008? lol
