Default CF Hatch with Glass/Lexan Forum Pic Post

Getting an Asuka CF sculpted hatch and not sure about glass or lexan and want to see pics. specially of Lexan with bolts/screws/3m and what ever else you stuck on it. Also any personal horror stories about you cracking a lexan window would be nice as well.

Thanks Everyone!

A little hard to tell but did you use the Nissan glass molding with that set-up above?
Obviously, the glass was set on silicone to secure it.

Robbin I noticed you mentioned 3M to secure Lexan. Keep in mind that when at speed, anything that doesn't have serious glue properties and that Lexan will blow out your hatch and fly away, probably taking half of your hatch with it. The glass or Lexan must be secured with either silicone (appropriate for glass) or screwed or rivetted down (Lexan). Not sure if that was just a joke...

I haven't had a chance to play around with it lately to get it to fit better though .

No I didn't, the glass guy had a whole bunch of rolls of different moldings and I just picked the one I liked. I actually liked it better than the oem molding and it was free.
Yes silicone was used.

Not joking, check it out. 3m tape only and I have herd this in three other places.

Link Quote: Our glass comes clear or smoked and backed with 3m tape ready to mount on your trunk, just make sure your surface is VERY clean and you apply as much pressure as you can without cracking your trunk. .

Yes, i bought it used from a member here, need to redo part of the glass and drill out the hinges and latches a bit so I have more room to work with, the passenger side is great, its the driver side thats not perfect. I know its better than some, but its just annoying as chit, you know what i mean.

I know exactly what you mean.
I've been trying to get my hatch to fit right for over a year now. I may just cut my loses and invest in a better fitting hatch.

do it! I sold my mastercrap hatch and couldn't be happier. Mine fit like crap and I never could get the A pillars to match up right so I sold it and bought a seibon hatch hopefully that one fits better.

Sweet! Let me know how that one works out. If Seibon fits better I'll go for. I'm gonna miss that lip... reminded me of a mini 80's 911 rear profile.

Just being picky but... Lexan is a brand. Plexiglass is also a brand.

Lexan = Polycarbonate
Plexiglass = Acrylic

Keep in mind that swapping to either Acrylic or Polycarbonate, it isn't a free trade. You don't get something for nothing.

Shatter resistance:
Glass < Acrylic < Polycarbonate

Scratch resistance:
Polycarbonate < Acrylic < Glass

Good point. They also follow that order in terms of flexibility. I know my "polycarbonate" is a bit wavy around the screws. Glass, obviously is not.

I'm going to paint it black, lol. I've never been a fan of cf, but i am a fan of weight savings and the lip on it. Hopefully in the spring I get to play around with it more. Thats basically how it fits with just putting it on with no adjustments.
