Default wondering about cost to get a used windshield....

uploading my pictures tomorrow.

I just want to let every body know that the so called "nissan mobile immobilizer" is not working. The police just got my car back after i just installed new rims on my Z. It was stolen and recovered one day later. My Navigation, radio, and some of the interior parts are gone. My windshield is cracked. And that was all they did to my damn Z. Police found my car about 10 miles away from where i work and they believe some kids just want a joy ride. Anyways, insurance will cover but my damn deductible is high. it is $1K. Thus, I was just wondering if i should cough up some $ and get a new windshield or a used Nissan windshield or aftermarket windshield. What do u guy recommend? If anyone had replaced their windshield before please let me know the cost. Thank you

Have the windshield done properly by a reputable shop. If the total damages are $1,001 or $5,000 your out-of-pocket expenses are the same.

I paid $215 for a new window. You're not going to save anything getting a used one. The larger percentage of the cost on mine was the install. The window was surprisingly cheap.

for safety reasons its not worth it to buy a used windshield. you dont know what type of stress was placed on it by the previous own. like others have said, a new one is less than $300.

Those prices quoted above are probably installed. Mine from Safelite were $262.

Cool thanks Daves. and is your OEM or after market windshield? Thanks. I thought windshield replacement usually cost from $700-1000. I guess i was wrong.

The idea you had of a used windshield was a waste of a thought.

I was under the impression that glass was either broken or not.

The fact there are used windshields is sketchy enough...I mean why would you replace a windshield if nothing is wrong with it

My friend cracked his windshield, and wanted me to search up a place for him. The place i recommended cost him in the low 100's plus installation. Real great work and service. Also, it came with some kind of warranty. Let me see if I can find the place and ill send you the link/contact info.

there are some cars that were branded salvaged title due to theft recovery and some rear end collisions that didnt impact the front windshield. I know because my friend got his Z branded salvaged and he ended up buying a new car with the insurance money. His car is sold to a junk yard. but u are right it is very sketchy

Yes. They pretty much buy from the same places. There's not a guy in a basement making replacement windshields.

Actually the one that I had installed was better because it had the dots/sunshade that my original didn't have. I've had 3 or 4 windows replaced and never had an issue with any of them. One thing to remember that some places may not tell you, keep your window open ever so slightly to relieve pressure inside the car. This will allow the glue to set without the window "pushing out".

Thats aftermarket (Safelite) - a Nissan replacement cost twice that. they are all the same so there's no use in buying one from nissan.

^^ Hey bro,

It was called All Star Glass, and when I looked them up on yelp, they had incredible ratings. Either they are out of business, or they are not on yelp anymore. It was in irvine, but they drive to you. If you don't go to satellite in a few days, I will try to call my friend again and ask him for the number. Sorry.

Btw, it cost him around 120 with warranty. This was around a year ago, and his car still looks great.

Just ask the Safelite Tech if they know how to install a windshield on a 350Z.

Last time I had my windshield replaced , they did $2200 dollars in damage because they did not know what they were doing. Thankfully my body shop gave Safelite this bill to be paid.
