Z got keyed!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Insurance will not pay for a color change, door jambs and engine bay or not. They will pay what it costs to restore to stock, or at least what you have insured it for.
There is a chance that you could pay the difference directly to the body shop, but that deal would have to be made out ahead of time with the shop.

The dude was caught by a valet guy.... He actually keyed a few diffrent rides before he was caught. Looks like he was kicked out of the club for fighting and was so pissed that he took it out on the Fairlady that night. He should expect a law suit...

I am certain that vandalism carries a "potential" jail term. Getting a judge to sentence someone to jail is another. And California jails hold non violent inmates for how long? One quarter of their sentence?
but hey at least you know his name and all now so when it's all said n done, maybe you can catch up to him and let the fairlady key HIS ***...car vandals are f**king cowards IMO
If you have a friend that did something shady and/or lucked out, or a bodyshop that did something shady...that is one thing, but fact of the matter is what I said is true 99% of the time.

Insurance covers what is on the car and insured. Unless the bodyshop will do the entire color change for the same cost the insurance agent appraised the damage for, it won't happen without out of pocket expenses. Since in most cases a shop won't do extra work for the same amount of money, what I said rings true the majority of the time. And no, the insurance company doesn't care how you spend the money. You get cut a check and whatever is on the check you can take as far as you can, but again the circumstance you're dealing with is that the shop will have to do more work for the same amount of money as the same body color re spray, which generally equates to corners being cut.
The appraisers usually have enough experience to appraise damage to a very close ballpark of what it costs to fix, leaving not much margin without a hookup price at a body shop or corners being cut.Oh yeah, P.S., if you spring for a different paint job, you will be scrutinized a lot closer by your insurance company as many people do this for a new paintjob. Surprise!
