The joys of buying a used turbo kit, I got so fixiated on the bigger parts that were missing or needing to be replaced as well as supporting mods, that I completely overlooked the little miscellaneous things that need to be replaced. So everything has been ordered, and now waiting on Intense to ship everything out to me.

Also I ran into a problem..... I ordered struts for my hatch through a vendor on here that guaranteed they were made for cf hatches, but they were too strong. Through the past year, the struts pushed the hatch back about and inch leaving a HUGE gap between roof and hatch. As result of this, that hatch was damaged by the hinge/mouting points of hatch (bottom side nothing on the CF) my question is.... Does anybody know where I can find the write up on how that is repaired. I remember seeing it a few years back, people fabbing a brace that helps evenly distribute the weight to avoid stress or damage on the hatch. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

damn that sucks. i've never seen anyone fab a custom brace before, wish i could help more.

which cf hatch do you have? when i had the asuka i was using the Z1 auto carbon hatch struts then when i switched to the seibon hatch i was able to use the stock oem struts because of the added weight of my voltex.

Mind if I ask which struts you bought? I bought Jason's CF hatch struts but I haven't had time to put my hatch on yet.

I have the Mastergrade hatch
As for struts, I bought them from Jason. Same ones from the link above. Not knockin his product at all, and it could just be that my hatch weighs less than the seibon or other cf hatches, but this was just my experience. I need weaker struts, if that's even possible lol.

The shop is removing the glass from the hatch today, and will attempt to repair the damage. (Fingers crossed) I was trying to find a link of this repair done, to help. I know this is not new lol. Somebody has to have some type of write up. I'm just looking to have this repaired and reinforced. Last thing I need is to consider this hatch a loss.

That's what I was afraid you would say. I think Chebosto is the one who wrote about the aluminum support but I can't seem to find his post.

I also received this email from Jason himself when I ordered them:

"as for insight on any Carbon hatch, i recommend you run to home depot and purchase some skinny fender washers. They are thin wide washers that you can install the on the HATCH side when installing the ball stud.

this i recommend to help distribute the weight transfer of the hatch shock force to the carbon hatch.

see all the carbon fiber hatches use a threaded insert that is simply glued in during the manufacturing process of the carbon fiber hatch. the factory hatch has a welded nut inside the hatch, any carbon hatch uses a glued in threaded insert...

so adding a large washer i feel helps distribute the load a bit better. I cant say its needed, but if anything its a good precaution.

i have friends and customers that have gone with and with out it and been fine."

I went to the shop yesterday to get a visual of the damage, and its cracked right where the mounting points are, my question is..... Can this be fixed by simply reglassing it? Is there more need to reinforce and repair? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Depends on the skill level of whoever is working on it...from what I remember looking at it.

It would require the inner side of the carbon hatch trimmed out or at least the area that bolts into. That area would need to be removed then have a mold made of it. Use the mold to make a new Carbon lay, then a thin metal sheet to connect everything together again.

"reglassing" it would just cause it to fail again...

Ya car is currently a GX. I wanted to talk to him yesterday about cutting out and rebuilding that area. I mentioned to John (is helper) about cutting out and using sheet metal to repair, but I wanted to get more detailed suggestions on this before I meet up with him again this week.

The thing about GX is you have to walk him through things which you already know...I would tell him to remove it first, then be there to walk through how you wanted it repaired.

Ya, after going back and forth a bit through text, we decided to have the rear window removed and then do work. Hopefully with with window removed we can walk through some options. He was trying to encourage me to go back to stock hatch and paint carbon body color, kinda changed the look, but for what I spent on all the carbon, im not trying to cover it up lol

Ha ha ha I wish. Ordered my parts from intense, and when it arrived my oil feed line and a few gaskets were missing. Took about another two weeks or so for that to arrive. Its been about 2 weeks or so, and no work has been done from what I could tell. I stopped by the shop real quick yesterday, before a meeting I had for work yesterday and didn't see anything done to my car.
My father in law is very ill, so I been having to make trips to Arizona very frequent. (wife and kids are there now)
My car was supposed to be ready for HIN this weekend, but with all these delays, I doubt that will happen.
Right now the Z isn't really priority to me, so I'm in no rush.
The only real big update I have is my TK shift **** arrived a few weeks ago. After owning the ARC shift **** and a few others, the TK shift has to be my favorite. Aside from that, I ordered a few dress up parts for the engine bay, and am now waiting for that to come in.

As expected, car has not been touched. Called today, and long story short my Z got pushed back which is a blessing/curse- more time for everything to be done right and not rushed to meet a show deadline. With car sitting there, probably means I will end up purchasing more misc parts for it lol. ETA-unknown, but will keep this thread updated should something happen.

Definitely don't rush it. That's where and how corners are cut and you forget things that could have been done the first time. Hope your father recovers ASAP.
