Default A/C for your radio??? WTF....LOL!!!

I'm sure anyone who has installed an aftermarket radio has seen the "unified meter and A/C amp" control box (the white box connected to the A/C controls). Yesterday I removed this doing some install work and discovered that there is actually a blocked A/C vent behind it and is inline with the foot vents. A small black plastic cover is all that is blocking it and can easily be removed and put back on. I guess you could use it to run additional vents somewhere or if you live in a very dry and hot place it could keep your stereo cooled down?? If you live where its humid I'm sure the condensation build up or running the heater during the winter would fry the electronics pretty quick. So does anyone know the purpose of why this is there?

Maybe the case is also used on the G35 and the plug is removedfor that install.
