As for the original Z you wanted, rebuilt titles are a very risk buy. 2003 Z's you can find in excellent shape with low miles for 11-14K. With the salvage title it's worth half that. If you wanted to get a good paint job, you are talking about spending more money on paint than the entire car is worth. So it wouldn't make much financial sense.

Didn't all the 03 tourings come with the 6 spoke 18 inch alloys? so I'm guessing the crash was hard enough to bust up his rims pretty bad. This probably means there is some frame damage, something you want to stay away from. I'm not a fan of uneven body panel gaps.

If you are patient, there is always the great deal that comes up for the guy who has the kid on the way, and has to get rid of his other baby which he took very well care of. But I know the feeling of itching to get that Z now.

Also do yourself the favor of learning to drive a stick shift car before buying your Z, so that you can make a really educated decisions whether you want an automatic or manual Z. I personally couldn't imagine driving my Z with an automatic.

If you're going to paint it, why would you paint it an oem color?
If I had to repaint my z, i'd choose a nice gunmetal or deep blue color, def not an oem one.

I agree, you will feel much better having more of a choice. Imagine a 2003 350Z 6 spd Track Model Super Black, 19,562 mi on it, garage kept and covered by a designed car cover, parked on carpet, with vortech super charger, jwt cams, jwt heavy duty street clutch, nismo thermostat, nismo headers, nismo catback, koyo slim radiator, oil cooler all done by ZCargarage (ZCargarage.com), c/f hood and rear spoiler, 3M bra covering mirrors, front, hood, nismo mats, complete maintenance records from day one, one owner, mequiar's upkeep (never in a car wash) only washed and waxed by the 60 year old owner. Only it's $16,500 and in CA. But look for something like that and you will love driving it. Look for a good/great deal not an average deal, they are out there.

Have to agree w/ Goose - Mag Black so much better than the Super Black. Look at a Mag Black paint job in the sun and you'll know - the flake in the paint is cool. I had several super Black owners comment on how they would like to upgrade their paint to Mag Black.

OP, I got a 07 black Z with 11500 miles on it for $12,000. Just hold out and watch what's available. Trust me I rushed buying my first Z 4 yrs ago and ended up with a daytona blue. I ended up selling it and getting the 07.

Turns out I have to get the silver 03 for 8 grand. My father and I went down to look at it today for a full inspection. It looks good, drives good, just needs paint which our buddy at maaco can do for less than 2 grand. He's been a close family friend for years, he wont give me a crappy paint job, and he's painted our cars in the past. Besides, im thankful just to be getting a 350z as a first car at all. Now I just have to start looking for mods

It comes with xenon lights, chrome versions of the stock 7 spoke rims (i would rather upgrade but will probably just keep them and paint them black for now), and a bose stereo which frankly didn't impress me. Sounded like any old system to me, but im buying a sub from a friend that fits perfectly under the arch in the back ( not sure what it's called, or what it's for ). I should also buy a spoiler before the car is painted, any opinions on a good spoiler? Only one that has caught my eye so far is the nismo, which apparently costs a fortune so i assume i was looking at a replica for around $200.

Amen to that, as did I. Couldn't even drive it off the lot. I have only ever owned automatics.
