05 and 06 rear bumpers

05 and 06 rear bumpers
I picked up a 06/07 rear ing bumper from deviljon for free 
cause it needs to be repaired and repainted.
I was told by some people that 05 and 06/07 rear bumps can be swapped.
But they can't really be swapped directly because of somereasons.
05 bumpers use the 5 clips top of the bumper where as 06/07 use 3 bolts.
My 05 sidemarkers weren't fitting in properly behind the 06/07 bumper.
Lastly, on the back of the 05 bumper, there's a bracket thing where you bolt in the license plate light, and trunk opening switch. It's rectangular shape. but 06 bumpers don't have the enough space for the rectangular shape thing to be put on. i'm sure who have taken off the bumper understand.
Are they suppose to be swapped directly? maybe i'm doing something wrong
