Default Nismo RS hood, need advise on how to install mesh

Hi everyone. I recently cut the nismo rs vents out of my 05 hood and they turned out great. Now i am trying to install black aluminum mesh i bought but cannot figure out the best way to permanently connect the mesh to the hood. How has everyone else done it with theirs? I've tried epoxy and black high temp gasket silicone and the mesh just wont stay in place. I've never used fiberglass but if that is what i need to use then i guess ill have to learn.
Thanks, Patrick

P.S. Ill try to post pictures tomorrow for anyone who is curious on how it turned out

I haven't personally done this but I can say the best automotive adhesive I know of is "panel bond". It is the same thing used in oem to attach door skins. It will bond to anything and sets relatively quickly. Will be much easier than fiberglass.

I can vouch for patricks work, his hood came out flawless. I wonder if you have enough space for rivets. You could try to track weld the vents on? What about body filler, it has a real good tendency to adhere to metal.

Your interior looks good btw

I would just leave it without the mesh, a little water in the engine bay isn't going to harm anything.

Post those pics!

I like it without the mesh but the vents keep cutting bugs in half when im driving. The mesh is more to keep out bugs and leaves, etc.

Thanks, I have the vents lined up on both sides to the exact millimeter. It only took 4 dremels to do the job. luckily Home Depot let me swap out the dremel every time i broke it which was about every other day. LOL. Okay back to the question, what do people use to stick the mesh on the underside of the hood?

Did you use the paper templates to line up everything or did you make your own?

Yes. what i did is i laid out a layer of painters tape, then put the templates on top and taped those down, then i did like 20 different measurements across the hood to line it up to the exact mm.

Ill post pictures of the underside as soon as i finish because i have started glueing the mesh to the hood using some roof tile caulk. So as soon as i'm finished and clean it up i will do so.

Thanks, I'd really appreciate it. I'm just wondering how you worked around all those reinforcement parts on the underside of the hood.
Also, do you have a link to the actual templates you used?
I think there are a couple of different sized templates floating around out there, but I think the size you used is perfect.

hmmm. just saw the falken 350z car at formula drift.

they've got larger openings in the hood, and they're using a thin trim with mesh
center. i think you could have a welder braze some very small mount tabs or go
with jb weld like terra mentioned. the key look-wise imo is flat black mesh.

try - http://www.mcnichols.com/products/wi.../square-weave/

you can paint or powdercoat black. if you think you'd like to go the trim route, you'll
prob need to hand off the template and mesh to a fab shop. have them cut 3-5 mm trim
to overlay and cut the mesh to suit. then you could simply use the jb weld on the trim
which would lay over the holes you've cut.

if you mount from the underside i would just use two pieces of mesh cut to size and
jb weld. this will give you a seamless look vent-to-vent.

hope you like one of my ideas. well executed sofar. take your time with the mesh to
kill it.
