Default How do you fix this little thing?

Ok, so there's a small AC vent on the door of my Z. The little flaps in the vent that open and close are not lined up correctly anymore. As in, they don't all move together anymore like the other vent on the other door. Instead, the all move seperately and I'd really like to fix that.

Should I take out this vent and put in a new one or is there an easy way to fix it? I'm not known for being mr. fix it but I can do small things. If i have to buy one would courtesyparts be a good place? Thanks

so you have to start by taking the door panel off. then there are 4 screws that hold the vent on, may or may not have to take off handle and/ or vent tube to get it free.

then i dont no the order on this but there is like one screw on the bottom and then it the cover should should come off the bottom. There is an arm in there that hold them all in sync, you either broke it or it just came off. you'll have to take it apart to fully understand.

If the plastic broke then i'd use a soldering iron to melt the plastic back together. Google "plastic welding" to learn how.. but it's pretty self explanatory.

Normally there's a little bar that connects the three vanes. If you look into the vent with a flashlight, you'll be able to see the bar.

If the bar gets popped off the little ***** on the back of the vanes, the vanes won't work together. If the bar is still there, you can probably manipulate it into the correct position and snap it over the little ***** again. A wire with a hook on the end and a pair of needle nose pliers would work.

+1

I had the same thing happen to me once when I was cleaning my interior and I popped the bar right back on with my fingers.

THAAANK you. i shined a flash light in both and saw the W-shaped connector that connects the three flaps on my left vent but not the right. I don't have that vent but i can buy it at courtesyparts for $35. i wonder if thats too much lol

Look around under the seat. It may have blown out, and found its way there.

Popped it back in with my fingers. Easy fix considering you don't have sausage digits.

I was doubting it but looked anyway. Not surprised I couldn't find it. I just got the car and its an 03. I feel like it's been broken for a pretty long time. I guess I'll buy a new vent from courtesy then take the door panel apart and replace it myself
