Have you removed the dead weight in the hatch? It came on the Zs with just a OEM spoiler or nothing on the trunk at all.

The only other place that I can find them is from Performance Nissan (lift gate spring).

I just bought the car so Im not sure what the dead weight would be. It does have a spoiler, not sure if its factory or aftermarket.

it was missing one of the springs and the one that was there had some pennies in it. Im guessing that I should replace the lift rods and the springs at the same time.

The springs should be available through a Nissan dealer.Or,possibly you can
find comparable spring at a hardware/auto parts store. If I remember, the spring has a rubber cup around it.The pennies are an old trick used to give "new life" to a worn spring. When the springs loose their tension, the
latch button has to be press twice to pop open.I think there was a service bulletin on these springs years ago.As I said,I'D think you could find a spring to fit...with a stroger tension.
