Unhappy Paint mismatch on body kit... Is there any blending that can be done?

got my side skirts back and my nismo wing. There is a slight mismatch in paint color. I guess there isn't much that can be done other than have them repaint it... I don't think the shop will do it for free since it's kind of the nature of painting right? I guess I could throw a fit and have them do it .

The nismo wing looks pretty damn good just about the right color. I had some bumpers painted and installed at a different shop and it looks perfect!

I didn't go to them cause I felt they wanted way too much to paint the wing and the skirts, close to 1200 dollars. I got the skirts and wing painted for 376, and I've installed the skirts and I'm installing the wing myself.

Is there any type of blending or airbrushing that can be done to have them match better?

Thanks,

Kevin

in the picture it almost looks like chrome silver

I say you paid so you should be happy with the service.

Take it back and have them redo it until you are happy with the match

Unless you like the two-tone look, I would take it back.

ok im a painter
it will be hard to get a perfect match on bodykit
because you are butt matching the panels
the only way you wont notice it is to blend the color
on to the qtr panel and door and fender
you can go back and tell the shop to respray the
side skirts by adjusting the color now since they
can tell which toner to adjust in the base

Why didnt you just have it painted while on the car? that way they can do perfect match and blend.

plus the piece they painted is fiberglass. It is very hard to match the body of the car perfect. It doesnt look bad at all. Take a pic in the daylight so we can see it.

You cant get a body piece painted right if its on the car. The piece needs to be off the car to paint it properly.

If its was painted on the car over spay will get all over the car plus it wouldn't get even paint job.

I always give my painter my gas cap to color match it right. I would take it back.

Paint matcing is sometimes hard on Silver colored cars. A good painter will want you to come back so have them redone.

You get what you pay for.... you gambled on the cost to paint and now you have a problem. My guess is that you will have to pay to repaint.

When I had my Nismo kit done, it cost me a good bit more than "bargain" paint shops around Charlotte. But when the work was done and did not match, the shop re-did the entire kit... removed it, reprepped it, worked with PPG rep and me to ensure the paint formula was a 100% match (for brickyard no less!), repainted and remounted.

All this was done at no additional charge. The end result, a paint job so good the only reason you know it is not factory is if you know that the Nismo body kit is not factory stock.

People think I'm nuts for paying a little more everytime I have work done on my car, but I firmly believe you get what you pay for and I'd rather have a shop that will always get the job right the first time or be willing to go the extra mile to make right, than a shop that saves me a few bucks but produces work that I'm ultimately unsatisfied with.

Silverstone is definitely one, if not THE hardest colors to match on the Z. It's not as neutral as black, or loud and bright as the other colors where the colors are saturated and easily toned.

Just the slight increase or decrease in flakes can totally change the shade of the color.
I've taken kit pieces into body shops and have them go "damn your car, not this color!"

Wow, that looks like the shotty job my first body shop did on my ride. When you try to match urethane, or fiberglass to the paint on the car, which is metal, it's hard to do, just because of the way the paint reacts and cures to the material. That's just how things are. BUt that looks pretty bad IMO.
What brand paint did they use?
If I was a betting man I'd say PPG. PPG is very hard to match. I've found out that shops that use PPG for the Z, have a lot of trouble with color matching. It's not that PPG isn't good, quite the contrary, but the chemcals they use to mix the paint, just makes it very hard to match properly.

Dupont seems to be the way to go. Can't wait till my car comes out of the shop.....
