Default Removing Shift Boot Help

I'm attempting to repaint my center console and I need to remove the shift boot so that I can take out the bottom portion of the console out for prep and paint. I do not feel like taking the actual shift **** off. So is there anyway to remove the boot itself?

Well its more like I don't wanna strip anything or fu ck anything up by wrenching on my shift k n ob to take it off. I just wanted to see if there was another route to doing this. But I guess there is not

You technically could pul up the shift surround and unscrew the screws for the boot, but the angles and limited space you'd be working with would make it more work than actually removing your shift ****.
