Smile Getting bodykit installed - what questions should I ask?

As the title says, I just want to make sure I know what to ask. Is there a certain type of paint? Any thing I need to get in writing?

I have been given a quote I am happy with. I am dropping the kit and car off tomorrow.

End result for this project is this picture

multi coat-not a single shot? Paint should be primer, base clear
how many coats of clear?
clear to be cut and buff before delivery?
confidence in painting fiberglass without getting waves?
warranty on paint?
paint brand?
paint variant?
if painting urethane, will they use paint with flex agent?

ect ect...

Great. Thanks for the replies. The body kit parts are fiberglass.

Suggestions on number of clear coats? Paint brand or type?

I will ask about the cutting and buffing. The quote was $1400 for install with two tone on the front bumper, rear bumper and side skirts. I expect it to go up a little as I am going to have him fill in the badge on the front bumper as well.

Base color is Pikes peak 3 stage and I am adding gloss black for the second color.

They do have a lifetime warranty on paint and work. I feel more confident since it is through the insurance company.

what is the name of your paint shop?

1400 sounds like a good deal..too good to be true. I would venture to say they are going to cut corners.

PPW is a tri-coat and hard to color match.

3 coats of clear. 5 if you want a show car deep finish.

My guess is they are doing 1 coat. No prep or body panel fitting.

Installation should only be a few hundred. So lets say $900 to paint a front bumper and sides?
Seems reasonable since it's two-tone. I've got quoted about 300 just to paint a front bumper one color.

I doubt they are going to "cut and buff" If they spray it well enough it shouldn't need it

For $1400 they won't be painting jams. So make sure you are comfortable with that. I paid $2600 for a 2-tone paint job and it looked great for 2 weeks until the clear started to pinhole. Paid another shop $1000 to fix the mess up. FYI, the other shop said it should have been about a $4-5K job depending. You will definitely get what you pay for.

Correct, just the body kit. They have a lifetime warranty on paint and work as well.

I'll post pics when I get it back. Anyone know where I can find similar wheels gloss black? The ones in the pic are $450/piece which is too rich for my blood.

As others have stated you get what you pay for. Most likely will not prepped that well.

First question, have you ever done this type of work before? Ask too see some pictures for reference.

For the price you're saying it don't sound like they're going to take much time with make the body kit line up with everything. Depending on where you're from you might want to have them bake the parts to release any trapped air bubbles before body work/paint. And it would be wise to blend your PPW. Panel painting is a bad idea.
