i could see y you'd have problems in cold temps wih the gas shocks. our hatch on the z doesnt like to open with the first push of a button in cold temps. and nissan also used gas shockes for our hatch. so ya, the doors might be a litter harder to lift, or wont go up as far.

now, someone mentioned they saw the kit for $1500, i;d like to know where from. is it the decah kit or some other kit? im pretty much set on getting the decah version. if the decan kit is going for that price, great.

i havent seen it for less then 1800, but i dont know if they paint the hinge to match the color of your car like carxs does (and they're charging 2000).

also, someone on another forum mentioned that there was one spot where the doors or panels or something was rubbing on another part of the car. i cant remember exactly what. anyone have any info on that?

hmmm...I've never had problems in cold temps
Of course, low temps here are sub 80 degrees and they occur very rarely =)

what about this kit? looks pretty easy, im sure there is a lower price out there somewhere, imracing tends to be way overpriced.

its the same decah kit that carxs sells. thats actually where i saw the kit selling for 1800 (i-m-racing.com). still waiting on a reply from them to see if they paint the hinges to match the cars color.

they're actually not that bad. 200 less then what carxs is charging. if they dont paint the hinges, then the price difference would make sense. ill c how that goes.

is anyone else thinking about getting one of these kits? maybe we can work something out with a dealer to get a better price.

oops, didnt see that post.
so thats where they were charging that low price. no way we can get 10 orders. i was thinking maybe 5 tops. either way, they dont even have a kit made for the 350z yet, so we'd end up being the Ginnie pigs on this one. not to mention the time its going to take to manufacture, fit and refit, bla bla bla. ill pass.

It takes Jerry (30 years body experience), approx 2-3 full days to fit some new applications, and that's using a hinge that just has to be modified. He also has a full machine shop to work with.

They're so back-ordered from taking jobs from other companies advertising that they can do the kits(using CarExcess car pictures), the people say they've been promised the kits from these companies, then after months of waiting, they get a call saying that the company can't get the doors to work properly.

I'm not saying that CarExcess is the only place that can do lambo doors properly, just that they're one of the few companies in the world that currently do it correctly.

I can't tell you how many hack jobs they get from other professional body shops that "weld" a piece of crap hinge on that they have to cut off and "bolt" their own hinge on.
They get cars from California, New York, New Jersey, Kansas, Alabama, and all over Florida, that drive or trailer their cars to have him develope/modify and install lambo doors.
They also ship their modified kits all over the world.

The kits you see on the Veilside 350Zs at the Japanese Auto Salon were made by CarExcess.

Just thought I'd share that with you. It's not as easy as it looks.
But all that being said.....Good luck. I'm all for saving a buck.

When I had my shop install my vert kit, they gave nothing but compliments to the workmanship of the carexcess hinge (they automatically knew it was from you guys due to the fact it was painted to match). We have Z's, let's give them nothing less then the best (If we had Civics, then we could do some real hackjobs )

Would you guys mind posting some pics of the part that has to be shaved, and if you can see it at all from the outside of the car ?

I saw a how-to for the installation, but couldnt exactly see what was shaved off, or rolled.

Yea, your link wasnt working for me ( yahoo pics ? ) I just wanted to ask, because on the websites they say ( may require rolling or cutting ) And Ive heard the conflicting reports, earlier models and what not.

thank you for clearing it up then - its nice to know that i wont have to cut or bend anything at all to have this.

hey, a little off topic- but why did you leave your "350z" emblem on if you put the fairlady emblem on?

it isnt the carxs (decah) kit. the kit you get from carxs opens out more, and doesnt go up as far as the one in the pic you posted.

and info on that?

I've seen Mr Twisted's Z a bunch of times. Awesome car.
His sig says
GT Factory "vertical" Diablo door conversion/ with leather door panels

I think it cost under 3K
Give him a PM. He loves to talk Z.

IMO, I think his looks a little weird- I think the kit looks better when the doors don't go all the way up. I think that the kit carexcess places them perfectly, but other's opinions may differ
