Gear knob - metal plate removal?

Gear **** - metal plate removal?
Does anyone know how to remove this metal plate with shifting pattern from ****? I need to restore the leather and re-polish or re-spray this metal part. Someone wrote that it's easy to pry out. I've damaged leather from trying to pry it. Someone got an idea?
