Default How to remove shifter **** cap?

Does anyone know how to remove this top aluminum cap from gearstick ****? I want to paint it to refresh my Z and because of the cap placement (it's embedded) it's hard to do a clean job without disassembling it

You mean tearing down the leather? I saw a post by someone about removing it quite easily but I don't remember where.

I bought a shift **** from local forum member JUST for the little metal thing to put in my good condition stock shift **** which had none since day I bought the car. I had to use a screwdriver to prise it out due to the glue inside.

I would imagine if you're careful, you can do this without damage. Me, well, mangled the shiftknob in my haste to remove.

Use glue to re-install.

it's just glued on. mine fell off I cleaned and reglued. use heat to heat up glue without burning the leather and use a small flathead to pry off carefully
