Stripped touring vs base weight
Thinking about buying a stock Z to turn into an autocross car. The general recommendation for touring and prepared categories is to go with a base, because it doesn't have VDC and it weighs less. There aren't very many base models for sale though, so what I'm wondering is - if I unplug the yaw sensor to disable VDC, change the wheels, and remove the seats and the sub, do I essentially have a base? Or is there significant extra weight hidden in the higher trims in things like wiring? I'll be doing all those things regardless, so it _seems_ like it shouldn't matter much which model I start with. Base would be cheapest if they actually existed for sale anywhere near me, but they don't.

There may be some additional wiring and stereo equipment the base doesnt have. The leather seats are around 50lbs each.
I gutted my touring on the other 350z forum if you want a little closer look.

Seats shouldn't matter as I'll be replacing those. I wouldn't think the bit of wiring and heavier speakers (after removing the sub) would make much difference.. Do you have a link for that other thread?
