Default Behind the Rear Center Badge?

Are the holes behind the center rear badge vertical or horizontal. I am thinking of putting a Fairlady badge in the center and I want to make sure it will cover the holes.

I'm pretty sure it will fit as I have seen it done before. I believe Sirmike (or sirmike1) did it. Here's a picture of the holes.
