Could we set a post limit say 10 or so before you can start a thread in the private classifieds to prevent scammers from popping in and scamming ppl. Just a suggestion that the is300 board uses.

How does requiring someone to post 10 posts before scamming someone help anything? It's an ineffective system (based on past experience).

It is called a suggestion as a referance. So ppl dont pop in with one post try to sell a high dollar item and skip out. But since your name says it all you already " know it all"

Yes, I am aware it is a suggestion and I'm asking you how requiring someone to post 10 posts (of questionable value) prevents scammers from popping in and scamming people, or popping in with one post try to sell a high dollar item and skip out. So they pop in with 10 posts and then skip out. There seems to be a flaw in the protection system. As I said, based on past experience, it's an ineffective system. Sorry if you think it is (and have a hard time hearing it), but it simply isn't.

Things that actually are effective in preventing scammers from popping in and scamming people are:

Buying goods from people you know personally.
Buying things in person.
Using a form of payment that protects you.
Using Escrow services.
Using your head.

People get scammed because they let themselves get scammed, and 10 posts ain't gonna change that.

Ohhh, and feel free to lose the attitude Sparky. "Know it all" is a title given by the board automatically after a certain number of posts. This much... I do know.

Yes, this practice is very common on messageboards. Some boards even have trial periods where you can only post in one forum till 30 days or so have elapsed. I think it is a good idea, because I know that I do not even consider buying something from someone with 1 post that decided to make his first post in the Classifieds section. I mean at least introduce yourself and let us know about your car to get a feel.
