It is really lame that this site is using it now. It has to be the most annoying thing i've ever seen on a web forum. Please for the love of god get rid of it.

I guess I'm having a hard time figuring out why so many people are upset over this. So you have some green, underlined words in the text now. Does that really stop you from reading a post or make it that much more difficult? (If you're that easily distracted, should you really be driving a high-performance sports car? )
The only time I can see it being a problem is when you fly over the link with your cursor and the pop-up is shown. Please don't tell me that everybody here reads by moving the cursor along the lines of text.
They're certainly less intrusive than real pop-ups, banner ads or any of a dozen other advertising methods out there. If this site make a few bucks from these then great, that increases the likelyhood that it will continue to improve in other ways.

It wouldn't be so bad if the links had something (anything!) to do with what I'm visiting this forum for in the first place: Informatiom, modifications, upgrades, stuff for my Z. An underlined link for "Sports Car", which I think our Z's qualify as, ends up with an advertisement for Khrysler (spelling to avoid creating a link). Second time around it was for AKura.
If we're gonna get spammed, at least make it pertinent. I could give a FK less about dealer costs or accessories for some car I wouldn't be cought dead in.

Everything is a trade-off...the commercialization of this website has brought much better performance in terms of page downloads with better servers and hosting. Remember it use to be butt-a$$ slow with no response from previous admins.
At the same time they also risk diluting the marketing potential for legitimate sponsors when garbage links come up like the 'Turbocharge You Car' air intake add-on, ironically something even one of our admins used to bag on.
I suppose most of the gripes may be taken personally as the quality of sponsor marketing has gone from specific demographic marketing (350Z parts and accessories directly related to Z enthusiasts for a symbiotic benefit) to general spam marketing akin to the X10 spy camera or Undertone Networks mass web marketing.
Ultimately it's the admins' right and choice and at the same time members have a choice to stay or go elsewhere.
Either way, I changed my forum email address to my spambucket address should the next progression be selling 40k member email addresses. LOL If anyone emails me, you may not get a response EVAH! LMAO.

I'd have to agree with you there, the relevance of the links does make them useless. But that also means that people aren't going to click through them so ultimately, there won't be much money made from them.

It is annoying. It is distracting. It is generally unappealing. This site could make (or does make, who knows) oever $30K from banner ads, so it just seems so... unneeded.
Who knows maybe it will catch on and be a really cool thing we can all do randomly in our posts just to annoy everyone?

Plus if nobody clicks on them, why are they there? I can't see how the spammers--I mean advertisers--are making any money off this.
