Default How do you downsize pictures?

OK, I've had it. I decided to post a thread because I have tried to post so many times pictures and stuff and i can't seem to get to the required 73 kb picture size.

Can a noble soul post instructions on what to do. My camera is shooting now in the middle setting about 800 kb per picture. The best setting shoots at 1.8 megs.

Also, how do you guys post pictures that are the appropriate size in the thread and you don't have to click the pic to hyperlink it to a bigger. I feel really stupid asking this, but I thought I was not a moron in computers and this proves me wrong. Also a profesor I once had said there are no moronical questions.

You have to use a program like Adobe Photoshop to crop or shrink the image.

Pics not hosted by the site are hosted by another site such as www.photobucket.com and then linked to here.

I have tried MS Picture It but I can never get as low as 73kb. Anything else that I can do that doesn't require a new application?

Well if you can somehow save the picture in a .jpeg format, you can lower the quality of the picture and get it down.

I'd do it for you but I'm at work and don't have access to my apps.

MS Photo Editor is a built-in Windows feature nowadays IIRC. My work PC has it and that's what I use to reduce pic sizes. At home, I use Photoshop. Just look for free image editing apps online. There are bound to be several.

Actually, I just thought of this. Image Shack (imageshack.us) offers the option of reducing pic sizes for you after u upload them. Just shoot the smallest size with your camera and then see how much smaller Image Shack can make it. Might be worth a try.

There are plenty of free applications out there that will do this for you.

I use "the gimp". It is open source, rivals photoshop, and comes free with certain flavors of linux. You can also download it free for windows.

Open the photo, click on Image [on the top bar], scroll down to Resize, click on that and change the size of the photo!

I looked at the Image menu and the submenus are

1- flip/rotate
2- stretch/skew
3- invert colors
4- attibutes
5- clear image
6- draw opaque

Attibutes seems to have a resolution section...Is this it?

Tried that and my picture got croped. Using MS Paint it can be reduced by inches, cm or pixels. Tried pixels and seemed to work but my pictrure got croped. I need to do it without croping it.

Use this site, it will automatically resize the image. I found this link in the sticky thread in the audio forum.

I use image resizer. All you have to do is right click the image, and you can resize it without screwing up the image quality
