Default A better search engine? Stop the complaints?

I can't search the forums by phrases. Even when I tried using the advanced search and quotes. How are you going to find anything if you type a couple of words or a phrase and every thread which has those words in it shows up?

I keep reading people complaining about people not searching prior to posting. Obviously the people complaining never searched....

I agree. Site admins: contact me if you want me to write a decent search for this site, all you have to do is provide me the forum posts, or let me crawl them.

Hmm...don't know if the mods will trust you on that but I 2nd a better search engine. Sometimes it's better just to post up a new thread...

Thanks for responding. At my office we added google search to our intranet. It works great. I know other forums that use it too. Check out photo.net for one. I already see google ads here.

Last night I was searching to see if anyone had to replace their "check link." In case you don't know, this is what keeps the door from shutting on you when it's open. You can just imagine how many threads have these words I tried things like "door won't stay open" etc. I tried the only other option, searching by title. Pretty much it was a complete waste of time with the current search engine.

You can't win....

Don't you think the boards here would be more useful if all the "search first" and wise *** non-contributing remarks were removed? There are no brownie points for posting 17 times a day

So I will just post this post which doesn't really fit in anything just because I'm bored and whoever that is reading this probably have a lot of free time to read this post...oh look you are still reading! So...I don't even know what the topic is about, I already forgot. But here is a post that you can read because some people like to read just about anything. So I had a few minutes to spare to write this so I did. So I will just post this post which doesn't really fit in anything just because I'm bored and whoever that is reading this probably have a lot of free time to read this post...oh look you are still reading! and you almost read it twice!

yeah i definately agree about the lame search option. its true- this site would be 1000x better if we could use a modern search function because we would eliminate all of the dumb questions, which would eliminate the 1,000,000 replies of "try searching."

I believe that Premiere Members have access to the better search algorythm. I doubt that it will be made available to the masses since it is probably one of the perks of paying. I could be wrong about this though. I know the search functionality has been discussed before, try searching ...

+1. You are correct. We have acess to the "Boolean" search. Membership has it's privledges.

As it should no doubt.
Problem is, it is the noobs on the site who can't find squat with the standard search function. Then stupid threads get started, flaming begins, yadda, yadda, yadda.
If the boolean search could be used by all, the site would be a better place overall.
I imagine the boolean search is for the select few due to the fact it is such a memory hog tho.

So it would help the premier members if all members had access to decent search, correct? But only premier members have access to decent search?

great business sense...

It's like cable TV, they let you taste digital cable for 49 bucks a month, but if you wanna see the good channels you gotta pony up the extra cash. That my friend, is good business sense. Unfortunately, this site isn't a free public service, or at least it isn't to some degree.

yeah whenever i type in a word trying to find something, im still as lost as if i never searched at all. i hope this gets fixed, its very annoying and i think people are afraid to post questions because people will bash them for not searching, but they probably did search and couldn't find an answer to their question.

-chris (hoping it gets fixed!)

You could use the Google "advanced" search function and specify "my350z.com" as the domain and it will only return matches for this site. Works really well too.
