Z04, I think mods' hands are full as is. We can't enforce that throughout the entire forum - it would be way too much work, I think.

Chris @ Migliore, you're a sponsor, you can have more stuff in your sig without going over the allotted amount/capacity for signatures. Plus, if you want, you can right justify the link to the top 100 questions thread so your ad will be on the left and separated from the thread link.

The search engine this site uses leaves much to be desired.

A while back I wanted to know how to aim my headlights. Before I started the thread listed below, I searched using the words "aim headlights".

It seemed logical, but the search engine returned a lot of usless info, so I started a new thread and got the info I needed. A few posts down someone posts an old thread on the subject and I asked what info he entered....

Other than this thread, there is a hole lot of nothing on the subject.

"Upcoming K-Town Z/G meet info - Check Here!"

"Louisiana Z/Import cookout April 29th *Lakefront*"

"Interest in new NYC 350Z forum?"

"Official XBox 360 Call of Duty 4 Online Gaming Thread"

"07 bi-xenon passanger side headlight (for sale)"

"Call or Duty 4 (PS3) (another video game?)"

and on and on.
WTF????:confused: This ^^^ is the search engine's answer to "Aim headlights"?

And I got a response...

27 pages of headlight related topics
I checked out his findings using "advanced" search and found more info that I never asked for....

I'm not sure why "aim headlights" brings up things like....

"Anyone in philly?"

"Jailed for 4 yrs in Dubai after customs find weed weighin less than a grain of sugar"

Don't get me wrong, I'm glad you dug up the ones you did, but it seems the "search" function just gives you a slighty smaller pile of usless info to dig through. I was hoping to find away around that stuff.

I notice also on other sites, the search function does kinda suck. In a programming sense, it should search for all the words being searched within the topic line instead of the whole thread. Example: "seibon hood" should only return threads where the words "seibon" and "hood" exists on the same topic line. Currently, it returns "hood" is on one line and "seibon" way way down on another line.

With that said, I recently learned to use Google. Do something like "seibon hood site:www.my350z.com" (without quotes). The nice thing is you can read the topic partially. But, the only problem I think is it's not as current.

Its ridiculous they call "noob" lazy but they can reply with the useless "use the search" reply. Instead of wasting time, why not just answer the dam question. If not, move on to the next post. I have no idea what are they doing there in the first place, but you have to click on the thread in order to read it, then reply and click 'post quick reply' - All this to be arrogant. Who's the actual lazy *** in this situation?

If it wasn't for new member's to sign up, eventually all topics will be discuss and my350z.com would be a dead zone - A new post here and there. They think they know everything there is to know about Z's but yet they're in the Tech area for one reason - to spy on new people. They carry nothing but thousands of useless posts # to build up a big chip on their shoulder, but really they're nothing but lazy ***, background bench warmers - wanna be moderators is what it is.

Not all veteran users are this way because there are intelligent ones who gets the idea of the purpose of a forum - Its not a hangout for scums that have nothing else to do but scan posts and cause drama.

I don't see how someone can argue about discussion. If the world see it in their view, no one will have conversations - "Sorry there fella, but you miss the exclusive discussion on that topic last week, so I can no longer talk to you about last weeks game. Go look it up in the internet. O' btw, check out our "use search" club while you're at it". HA HA HA!! What a bunch of retards.

OP, I agree, the search function here is pretty "inclusive" so your parameters have to be very specific or you get every thread on the site that deals with every topic. However, one can quickly open the search function and go to "advanced"....instead of setting the parameters at the initial prompt, set them to the left then select "titles only". This will severely limit the engine's choices and present more appropriate answers to your no0b question.

exactly.

op:Why would all these "retards" want to answer your question and why would you trust a answer from a "retard"? whos really "retarded" here?

Sure the search function isnt the easiest to use, but it gets me the results on want because:

Ive used it enough to know the ins/outs
I know how to make it return what i want
I know what to search for
where to search for it

On page five there is, at least, a thread with the words "aim" and headlight" in the title;
headlight problems,aim is horrible
But it's for the G not the Z and doesn't look like what a Z-driver will see on his or her car.

A thread that is usefull is further down on page five;
How NOT to Adjust Your Headlights Correctly.
I don't blame this useful post getting buried on the search button because it doesn't have the word "aim" in it. (I asked for "aim headlights")

But, on page six, if the searcher has not decided to just buy a set of headlights from all the useless "For Sale" threads that make no mention of the word "aim" in the title, he or she will be rewarded with;
How to aim the Z's headlights?
Notice the word "aim" and the word "headlight" in the title, and in the same order as the search request.

Why does the search engine put posts that don't contain all the requested words ahead of posts that do?

Maybe the search engine is just lazy...

Maybe we should start telling everyone to "Use the damn boolean search option!"

But it doesn't have quite the "you're such a stupid noob" sting that our old standby has.

I agree with what the op has to say but I understand the rest of you say as well..........there have been several times when I and other site members have been working on a project in the middle of the night and post for help and we all have gotten the good old use the search reply.
Come guys we are here to help each other right? Alot of guys on this site post a reply just to post *****, how else are there members since 07 and 08 with 2000 plus posts? Lets take this site back to what it was. If any thing else post the top 100 questions post for dump questions that warrant a use the search reply..........We all know that as the price of the older Zs come down we are getting a different type of Z owner but there is nothing that we can do about. I know alot of you guys have been on this site for a while but you where noobs at one point. Just my 2 cents.............

true, but how hard it is when you see one of these redundant questions being posted to go over to the side, click on the check mark, then go to moderator options and select close topic (or delete)? not too hard at all. same thing with going back and purging all of the closed threads in general. might clean up the search a bit.

We can't be everywhere in every forum to monitor every new post. Some of us do not have that authority.

i understand that, and it can be a challenge to try to do it as well for the forums you do moderate. i know that in the intake/exhaust, it use to be just report the thread in question (like the sticky said) and it got immediately closed. seems the mod (or ex mod) that had that in use is no longer one, so that is why nothing is being done about it anymore.
