Default Swap Section

Thinking maybe we should have a swap section under 350z Tech. More and more swaps are becoming common place. It would just not serve swapped 350z's...but also other cars swapping VQ's into them. Be nice to have an area to compile info...

Lately, I've been thinking more about this with multiple LS swaps springing about. I'm sure there will be other swaps in the near future. Last time this suggestion was made, we concluded that there just weren't enough swaps to warrant a whole new section.

For example, look how the N/A section turned out. It had some promise in the beginning but it's one of the least popular sub-forums.

I'll talk to the other admin and the mods and see what they say.

I think it is NEEDED to help the community. Not just the ls but rb's 2jz's etc.

Just my two cents.

I just don't think there is the number of swaps to warrant a dedicated section. There is some interest, but this has all the makings of another NA build section. Just my .02.

As a second thought.....I do think it might be worth putting together an FAQ regarding swaps. It would limit much of the redundant questions. With this....I think you would likely only be getting about 1 thread per month regarding a new or developing swap project. There just are not enough people undertaking the project. I certainly hope that this changes, though. It is perhaps one of those things that as more and more people (more than there is now) undertake a swap......it could be re-evaluated for a new section. As stated above....this has all the makings of NA build section written all over it.

We should get a Project section under the main section listing. It won't be very full and constant, but it's a nice start.

If anything.....I think perhaps merging the NA builds with swaps would be the best bet.

^ I was thinking that too, I guess we could call it "Projects and Builds" or something, like what Ben mentioned. Still waiting for the other team members to respond, though.

This is getting way to complicated...

If anything, the NA builds section should go back to "Engine & Drivetrain"...since the NA builds are, well, a VQ.

Swaps should get their own section since, well, it's a swap, and not a VQ.

I think it will also help direct guys putting VQ motors into other chassis. Give them a spot to post and ask questions instead of cluttering up other sections that are not related...

Perfect title, IMO. I've actually been wishing there was something like this for some time. Just when I was going to suggest it, I came upon this thread.

I think they should be lumped together. Why? Because if they were all separated, they would be so scattered and seem unorganized or hard to find.

Here's a rough example :

MY350Z.COM Forums > General
> Projects and Builds

- VQ swap into 240SX
- VQ NA Build - Lots of pictures NO 56k
- RB26 in a 350Z
- 240Z Restoration Project w/ RB26
- LS1 350Z
- 350Z with 20b rotary

I'm gonna be doing an LS Swap soon!!! Yeah baby!!! A new section would be awesome. I've had to do lots of research all over the web, which took too much time.

With a new section for things like this, it'd be way easier to research for people doing an LSx swap in the future. I'm trying to figure out if it'd be cheaper to get an LS1 to 500rwhp or an LS2. Seeing that I can get an LS1 for 2k or a LS2 for like 4k. I'll prolly go with the LS1 though. Sikky's LSX kit all the way baby!!!

We can be Brothers, Man. That'd be pretty baller though, not just one LS swap around DFW, but 2. I saw in another thread you were wanting to do the swap. Which engine are you going with?

Damn, I'm jealous. I've been dreaming of this ever since Noah did the very first LSx swap into a Z33. Too bad you didn't do this while I was still in Dallas.

This suggestion kind of got buried within the staff section, so let me bring it up again with them and see what they say.

I agree. The NA section should get merged back into the Engine & Drivetrain section. One of the reasons that the NA section is weak is because lots of NA related stuff is posted in Intake & Exhaust section and most NA guys don't go beyond basic bolt-ons. Only a very small percentage of NA guys do engine internals or full "builds".

I think there is greater potential for a Swap section, especially if the LS swaps gain popularity. However, I agree with 3hree5ive0ero and 03threefiftyz that there may not be enough swaps out there yet to justify a separate swap section at the present moment. I've noticed approximately 4-6 members mention pending LS swaps lately. I think it would be a good idea to wait until the end of summer and see if these pending swaps, as well as any additional swaps, come to fruition and if there are any decent threads that come along with them. If so, then create the Swap section at that time.

I don't think a generic "Project and Builds" section is a good idea. It leaves it too loose to interpretation as every Tom, Dick, and Harry thinks what they're doing with their car is a project or build and that it's thread worthy. Look at the FI section and how many guys start so-called "build" threads about a TT install that has been done thousands of times before ...yet they think their car is worthy of its own separate thread even though it has no unique features to distinguish it from the FI Z's & G's that proceeded it. I think a "Project and Builds" section would become a huge garbage bin for that kind of stuff and members will have to sift through LOTS of worthless and redundant crap in such a section to get to any decent engine swap threads.

My .

Rude, I think your last paragraph makes a very good point. We already saw a little bit of that in the N/A builds section, so I can only assume having title that is very generic would be much worse.

Well, I'll be sure to Post a thread about my build. I plan on getting as close to 500whp as I can. I'm gonna see about stroking the 5.7 to a 6.3L plus large cam, etc. Hopefully that'll help get it started around here, hehe.

I'm sad since I wrecked my Red Z. I was about to swap that one out, but I had to put a huge chunk of change for the current Z's downpayment. But now that a few months have past I'm trying to get the ball rolling again. The economy and America as we know it will be changing again really soon, so I need one last hoo-rah before I start saving money for good.

I agree...a Swap section for builds with a parts list and associated cost would be nice...seeing all these LS swaps is making me curious...
