Default Defi D-link meter gauges, ATTN : gq_626

This question is directed at anyone, but I know gq_626 has these gauges on his car.

A friend of mine is trying to decide which gauges to go with on his Z. His choices are the Defi D-link and Defi BF series gauges.

We like the fact that the D link matches a little better and that it read in PSI instead of bars. However, we like the overall look of the BF gauges better, and the fact that they are electrical instead of mechanical like the D-Link.

Our main question is, on the D link gauges, there is a black bezle with little arrows on them that you rotate by hand on the outer edge of the gauge. We are curious if that is able to come off or if it is stuck on. ( He does not like the look of that piece )

Also, what are some of the main advantages of electrical over mechanical? Other then the fact that you can get a kinked hose on the mechanical ones?

I think you are refering to the Defi D-Series...not D link. The bezel is removable.

Electrical is theoretically more precise, since the electrical current determings the reading displayed on the guage. Like yousaid...no chance of a kinked vaccuum line comeing through the firewall.

Dont get me wrong, I would go BF series electrical all the way....if they were in PSI readings.

Electronic guages typicallyi have other cool features, such as peak hold, warning lights, and replay features. Mechanical guages like the D-Series do not.

I can tell you that if you use any mechanical gauges you will have to mount them outside the drivers compartment or get isolators to put them inside the driver compartment. This will have to be done to be in compliance with NHRA and SCCA rules. These rules don't mean much if you don't race but if you ever plan on it you will not pass tech with fuel or oil entering the drivers compartment....Also electric gauges are on a whole very accurite now days and it is easier to route a single wire than a hose or breaded line....

By mechanical, I was refering to boost. Even the D-Series fuel, oil, temp guages are all electrical. Yeah...that would be insane to have hot oil or fuel running into the engine comparment....honestly.....I dont even think that type of gauge exists.

The only mechanical D-series guage is the Vac/boot guage. All others , Fuel PSI , EGT , Oil psi etc are electric. So no isolators needed anywere anywere.

The "D-series" have the removable pointer ring and match the OEM color and backplight perfectly.
