Guys, I've had to create a new login (turbo_peter) because the previous login (APS) is broken.

So when you see messages from turbo_peter, it's really me... Peter from APS.

Hope it's not as confusing as it has been for me

Peter

APS OWNERS: Out of curiosity, how well does your vehicle idle?

Pete or is it.... Mr. Turbo? (Just love the name)

Tuan at Genesis Racing Development
( www.grdperformance.com ) did a great job of tuning her. Tuan set her at 8.0lbs with a conservative profile. But you need to know that I have a few extras… An Unorthodox Racing Crank Pulley, 350EVO Throttle Body (bigger and open to 100%), Techno Square ECU re-flash, Random Technology High Flow Cats, and a Borla True Dual Exhaust. When the twins spool up and the power comes on, Zippy makes the most wonderful music…

She purrs like a kitten at idle and roared to life like a hungry cheetah when I hit the throttle. I couldn’t be happier. I have only driven her for a short period because it is very cold here. Getting close to below -10 C here (low 20’s + high teens F) Believe me mate, I WANT to DRIVE her!

I am sure that there are many Z owners putting an APS on their Christmas list. The questions is how many of them have been “nice”

How complicated is the tuning of that piggyback anyway?

What is causing the lack of turbo response compared to another APS install on the same dyno type?

we can see this other APS turbo kit on a dynapack dyno making full boost about 800 rpm sooner, and 35ft-lb more torque at 2500rpm with a lower overall peak output.... http://www.ct350z.org/yappa-ng/index...mage=TT29.jpeg

This car also backed up its dynapack plot with a nearly identical dynojet plot... if this leads us to believe that both dynapack and dynojets are going to read so close... then I am kinda of confused?

Charles,

I've tuned Zippy car for some slight winter use. Two wheel drive cars with big torque down low equals real big traction issue. I tuned his car to make more peak hp, since I know he'll be coming back in about a month or so for a final tune, we're awaiting parts for motor build up right now. I can show you my dyno chart with our APS equipped Z that will hit 8psi by 4000rpms if you are really concerned about it. The APS turbo's are very responsive. Its a matter of tuning for what I felt Zippy needed for the time being.
If you need a demonstration of a load dyno please feel free to stop by. I promise not to scratch any rims.

Regards,

Tuan Nguyen

Actually I would like to see the graph from your car... I am glad to see so many APS cars running now cause its great to be able to make direct comparisons so people can see what they are getting for their money... in the thread about that other car i posted the dyno graph link for I noted how his car was making roughly 75ftlb more torque by 2500rpm than greddy cars, on either dyno... so i definatly have already noticed the greater response... this turbocharger response, APS's piggyback using MAP as its load base for fuel correction, and its 1:1 fuel pressure configuration are the significant advantages of the APS kit that I always speak of when the topic arrises. I was not attempted to attack the work of the installer... because of course there is little that can be done by the installer that effects the spoolup of the car unless there was some kind of obvious problem which of course there is not. I was more along the lines of thinking of other mods possibly having an effect, or perhaps there is no standard load provided by dynapacks that could possibly cause variance in dyno spool time... so i figured i would ask.

But since we have hit the conversation, what did you change in the tuning to have such an effect?

I would definatly be interested to put my car on your dynapack once the engine is in again... hold up after hold up have prevented me from having the car running... but finally it appears the clouds are clearing and i might have a chance to actually build this motor. ill come in on the drag wheels just in case BTW as for my post somewhere where i mentioned the risk of a wheel being scratched in result of using that dyno... it was merely a rediculous stab at the dynapack to match the rediculous stabs dynapack makes at inertia dynos... every time I read all their marketing BS it cracks me up how they feel the need to blame the dynojet for so many issues when the only potential problem with the dynojet is the operator.

At any rate, good to see there will be some competition in the chicagoland 350z community... last summer i had no one to race except the dime-a-dozen DSMs and Supras and domestics. All of us with the turbo Z's should take a day down to a road course and do some damage... (hopeing my AEBS sleeves dont sink).

Good numbers Tuan!! That's a good kick in the pants hp level. Ship your car down here for the winter for me to play around with.

Tom,
You'll have to fight it over with the GF. Her car is down right now so she's driving the Z.
