Vortech tuning options
I've got a Vortech SC install scheduled in a few weeks, however the tuner will be away on a trip. What are my options either for self-tuning (with no experience) or an ECU reflash that could eliminate the piggy back system--is there such a thing and is that better than a custom tune or worse?
ECU reflash will not eliminate the piggy back system that comes with the Vortech SC. If you are going to have your ECU reflashed, have it done while your SC is being installed. TS can do the "limited" reflash and shipped back to you on the same day they receive. The Vortech SC is shipped with an A/F of approximately 10:1. Rich, but safe. Safe enough to drive until your tuner returns from his trip.
I would recommend you get the R4 software from "Split Second" for your tuner and make it available upon his return. Hopefully he is familiar with the R4 Software. A/F should be leaned out to 11.5:1 starting at 4000 rpms.

Yep, forget about reflashes and everything out is a piggy back unless you replace the ECU from doing engine functions completely. Just use the SS box and R4 software and do a custom tune. If you want to do it yourself, I would recommend buying some time on the dyno with a wideband O2 hooked up.
