Default single turbo

I know this is not the forum for FI, so bite me. lol. More people view this general forum. Ive been researching the single turbo from Turbonetics. Sounds really good. Anyone have one installed or here, any pros or cons on this setup? I live in a small town in new mexico, so instalation may be a problem. I wonder if any mechanic shop could do it or do you need to take it to a pro tuner shop? On a side note, I just got my Nismo catback installed 2 days ago. I love it. Sounds like an exotic sports car, not like a civic with a 8 inch exhaust tip. Im sure its only in my head, but I can feel a little more power. lol. BEN

The turbonetics kit is nice but I went with a TT setup.

A mechanic shop should be able to install it but as far as tuning goes you MUST get it tuned by a pro tuner.

Search the forum and I'm sure you'll find some answers.

I prefer the APS single turbo kit because they have a better overall design and are known for their high quality.

There are no single turbo kits availible yet. The release date on the APS single is May 2005. Not sure about the turbonetics kit.

Turbonetics kit is already out, it ships by Feb. 26th, so it may or may not already be shipping right now (all the people who pre-ordered).

It uses a ECU reflash, so you just send the ECU to Turbonetics and they reflash it and send it back, no tuning required that you have to drive to.

BEN!

You're such a dork bro.
There is sooo much info on the turbonetics in the FI forum....any Q that you have or will have has been answered there.
I am really debating between the turbonetics system and the APS single...don't have the cash for TT.
I am NOT the expert on the two, but here are my notes:

>Turbonetics:
Recently released
Street price $4750
380whp
Technosquare reflash of your computer (no tuning)
High flow fuel pump and injectors
Intercooer included
Only 8 to 10 hours labor to install
Not Cali CARB, but will have an add-on for cats for those of us that need to smog...you don't need it (I do)
Does not come with exhaust manifold, may have to buy a header (may not fit), Stock manifold or aftermarket headers may not hold up to heat and crack (per APS claims)

APS>
Not released yet....May?
Street price $6000
Comes with fuel system as well
Intercooler included...(better design?)
Also comes with exhaust manifold
Don't know power #s
Might be more $$ for labor install
Different design, APS claims less tubo lag then Turbonetics
Probably not tuneable (like Turbonetics) unless you get the extra stuff to tune with (costs $$)
More info on the APS Single at 350motoring.com, however there is (was) a prettly long thread on the APS in the FI forum.

FYI- Greddy TT is pretty cheap, $5500 with intercooler, however, you have to buy tuning/timing& fuel stuff, and 20 to 40 hours labor to install....
....APS TT is the Ultimate system, but it is pricecy, $8000 I think, includes everythig you need, but labor to install is more than single turbo.

PS- I bit you!

Nate

As for the manifolds on the turbonetics kit that claim although it had merit was not valid. I am not going to start another war about this but suffice to say that Turbonetics has not had an issue with stock manifolds cracking. Per nissan engineers they are made of SS409 steel and should have np problem withstanding this kit. Aftermarket headers CAN be pruchased as long as they exit in the factory location. Aftermarket headers are usually made of SS 304 which is what some turbo manifolds are made of

MIA-

Understood.
I have been keeping up with your fifty-something page thread and I am just trying to relay some basic info, and pros and cons in my opinioin about these two systems to my friend (bstansbu) who has just started considering FI. I am not trying to start a war or anything...there were just different opinions on the exhaust manifolds....

PS- sorry about your car :-(

Peter from APS has said that the MSRP for the APS s/t will be around $5500-6000, like the turbonetics kit. So like the turbonectics kit, i'd expect the street price to be less. Both kits look real nice. It'll be cool to see how they compare when more people start having them installed.
