Default Polyurethane motor mounts needed???

In another thread I was speaking with 10secapsttz about some possible issues with factory motor mounts. He noted problems with engine contact with the steering shaft on the APS tt kits on 2 seperate cars....both with some mileage on their kits. The idea came up that our motor mounts may not be up to the task of handling the huge torque increases from the boosted motors. With time and heavy torque exposure they may be getting fatigued and are allowing the motors to move around a little more than they should.....leading to steering shaft contact. This seems to be an issue only with the APS kit currently but the engine movement may be happening on other kits as well....just not being noticed yet due to extra clearances. Hopefully someone like Energy Suspension would be able to step up and have an upgrade or replacement mount kit for the 350Z in the near future. Any thoughts??

My thoughts are...
that's all we need, one more piece to prevent us who use these cars as daily drivers to go F/I.

i am the type of guy that always liked hard motor mounts. I use solid urethane mounts in many cars and usually the owner and i both like the feel of it... but added vibration definatly is the biggest cost here.

the design of the engine mounts for the 350z make it a little difficult compared to other cars to make a solid urethane mount for. This is one item on our TODO list and I hope to have them made before putting the engine in my car. But also for all i know we will completely drop the idea... I am not sure that the 350z world is ready yet for a harsh product like that.

I agree.....especially with most of us having built and fully balanced motors....the vibrations won't be as bad. Even if it was a steel case with an injected poly core that would work as well. Anything to keep the motor from shifting too much under heavy power. Maybe we need a set of torque straps like the Buick Grand National V6's needed when the boost got cranked up.

Just got back the response from Energy Suspension

Weve already had a 350 Z in here and we couldnt improve on the factory design for the mounts.

Sorry,

Jeff
