Vortech SC vs ATI Procharger
I'm a newb to the FI world and was thinking about getting a sc kit. I'm torn between getting the ati procharger or the vortech sc. To me they seem very similar, but I was wondering if there were any key differences between the two. Also if one had an advantage over the other i.e. horsepower produced, reliability, difficulty of installation, etc. To me it seems that a lot of people on the forums have the vortech and I know that people in the beggining were having problems with the procharger...just wanted to know people's personal experiences with these now that they've been out for awhile. Any info would be appreciated. Thx.
Vortech wins in every category except for future expandability.
However, if you care about running high HP in the future with built internals, why would you buy a supercharger anyways?
IMO there's no good reason to buy the ATI.

Stillen seems to be the safest. Proven Roots design. Soem people have been seeing issues lately with Vortec it seems but Im convinced if tuned right it is very safe.
Also higher HP than Stillen

Please give Paul Gasparola of Avalon Racing a call or an e-mail. I asked hin the exact question on Saturday during my dynotune--which do you think is a better SC... He recommends Vortech or Procharger depending upon the use and the individual. Website is : www.avalonracing.net . BTW, Avalon seems to have the lowest prices around and the service is second to none.
The ATI is capable of more power.
You don't have to tap the oil pan with the ATI, you do with the Vortech.
The Vortech is quieter (I am told). The ATI sounds like a Jet (first hand).
THe ATI needs to be tuned and really needs J&S Safeguard. The Vortech out of the box works and is safe.
THAT'S what I have picked up...

I have an ATI and have no problems at all. I like the way it sounds and performs. When I crank the engine it sounds like a 747 jet turbine under my hood and I love it. It has been running great and would not change it for the world.

Got my Vortech from Paul @ Avalon for $4390 shipped to my door. Unfortunately, I am still waiting for it to be shipped to me.
He said it would be 2 to 3 weeks for delivery and it has been 1 week.

The Procharger definately is louder than the Vortech but I like for a blower to be loud. Also if you hang on to a couple of small parts off the car during installatio of the Procharger that they tell you to discard, you will be able to remove it later if you want and return it completely to stock without having to plug the oil pan where it was tapped. Also, when the compressor uses your engine oil all it takes is just a few moments of oil starvation to fry it if something were to get in the line. Then, depending on what fails in the compressor, the leftovers could possibly make it back to your engine! Try explaining that to the dealer after they see the hole tapped in the oil pan (even after you have stripped the kit off the car). Never seen it happen on a s/c actually but have seen it happen on turbos. I guess I just like the ATI. Any way you boost the car you are gonna love it.
