Default Procharger or Vortech

I'm planning on going F/I with my car and was wondering between the Procharger and the Vortech which is a more complete and better overall kit. Which kit will make more power and be less stressful. Also i was wondering what kind of HP the stock clutch is capable of handling.

I decided on the Procharger due to the raw numbers and upgradeability. There were a number of blown engines with the Procharger, however. You must address fuel and timing. The FMU does not accurately do the job for fuel. You need to reflash the ecu or get the J & S safeguard or both. If I had to do it over again, I would buy the Tuner kit, then add the Reflash or Greddy E-manage, or both with larger injectors and fuel pump. I am headed in that direction in a round about way. I am pleased with my power output. I have the stock clutch and have had no issues as of yet, under 1,000 mi. It depends on your driving style and wants.

An age old question...Not to be repetitive, but run a search on this topic, you'll have reading material for days. Good luck.

Ok, well I'll chime in. I went with the Vortech because I was happy with 400rwhp and if I decide to need more power, I'll build the motor and throw an APS TT in. A Procharger will never match the torque of a TT no matter how tunable they are. Plus, the Vortech is probably the most complete SC kit for the Z/G you'll find. Included everything you need. I have 9000 miles on my SC and it's running as strong as ever.

I considering them both too. Either one seems to be a good choice. I know of a bunch of ATI's in this area and only one problem due to bad tuning. Vortech is also a great solution. The Vortech is quieter compared to the ATI Procharger. I'd make sure to find a shop that has experience installing and tuning whichever one you decide on though. Avalon Racing in NH has done many ATI's and Vortechs.
Bottomline though, you gotta check them both out in person and decide which you like better.

Either way you go, please make sure that it's tuned properly with a dyno! That can't be emphasized enough.

Absolutely tuning is necessary for max power. However, the ATI requires tuning with all the extra add on's which are necessry to make it SAFE.. The Vortech on the other hand is safe out of the box!

What do you need to run the Vortech kit safely (assuming you dont mess with boost settings etc and run it as it is intended to be)? Can we run any type of headers with the Vortech? Has anyone blown a motor with a vortech?

I think this is the kit I want...

You can run the vortech safely out of the box. Any headers can be used and yes there have been a couple of blow ups with the vortech but I believe they were either because of the tune that was put on the kit or not enough timing being pulled out.

ditto to what he said, except, I only know of one G with a fried ring (Booger)...as far as an engine blown, that must have been on the Z side cuz I never heard of it. Gman2004, do share, please.

There is a guy on here. I think his s/n is justin something that blew his motor on a vortech...I am pretty sure I read that here. Sharif might know who he is cause he posted on that thread. Also on my 350zmotoring has a guy that just blew his motor on a vortech. I don't know what exactly happened there but I think I saw in the thread that he was boosting 10psi.

Here are the posts about the guy boosting 10psi.

I read those threads and he was running a 10lb pulley, which means he was making about 11psi of boost. I say that because my stock 8lb pulley makes 9psi...if this is the case, of course you increase the chance of blowing your motor. But, no Vortech with a stock pulley with an "out of box" tune or another good tune as blown anything to my knowledge.

OK, so as far as tuning goes, I'm in Northern California. Where would I get a vortech tuned? After seeing a video for the vortech, I cant see straight ahha, I have to get it maybe even before my Volks.

Let me know any basics/suggestions. In the mean time I'm searching the forums to learn more. I'm looking for the safest solution assuming I'm in moderate boost at least once or twice during the day.
