Default Vortech charger upgrade

Got the performance estimate back from Vortech today, After filling out the application almost 2 weeks ago.
They told me that for $147.95 they would upgrade my existing blower to a S-trim. With my existing mods. and altitude @ 5300' above sea level, this s-trim would make 14 psi. @ 7000 rpms! 34/28 cog, 3.12" serp.
They are going to calculate the psi. @ 4000 rpms. I worry a bit about high egts with this set up!
Engineer @ Vortech also said that if I went down in altitude (like at sea level) I would get comp. surge
The turn around time from Vortech is 20 days for this upgrade.

That's pretty cheap. I am looking forward to seeing your results. Booger is the only other person I know that has gone this route with a s/c.

ONLY $150 to upgrade the SC to run up to 14 psi?? Hell, I had my Z dynoed at Z1 Motorsports yesterday and ONLY turned 5.7 psi 1 time. The other runs I couldnt get over 5.0 psi. I have to have a boost leak somewhere or something else is wrong.

That will probably be my next uprgrade also! Still enjoying the SSV. Went 5-6 weeks between prototype and finished product. While it is only 2 weeks for the upgrade, I think I will enjoy what I have for a while.

If I would you I would upgrade the internals at the same time as the blower or you might not have a mode of transportation for too long.

So far...Ive only been able to get up to 12.8 psi . Im running the custom made 34 tooth jackshaft cog pulley and the 3.12 serp pulley . Im fixing leaks that I have found . I went to the dyno yesterday , had it all strapped up and ready to go . We discovered my wiring problem is still a problem . So the dyno is on hold till that gets fixed and I fix the leak . I am starting to think we are going to have a problem with the belt slipping when we hit that 12.5 to 13 psi level . Ive got the leak to where it isnt much at all and there isnt any other leaks . I used my compressor and had 18.5 psi in ever part of the system . Im hitting 12.8psi at 6,000rpm and it levels off . I should be building boost the reat of the way up the rpm range . It just may be that when the blower reaches that psi , that the belt slips no matter how tight you have it . If the serp belt was a cog belt....I dont think I would see this problem and it would build boost all the way to redline....we will see

I have been thinking about converting all of the pullies to an 8-rib belt but, it seems to be fairly cost prohibitive. Any thoughts?

So do you think there is downfalls to doing this?
Jammie said he would fax me psi @ 4k, wish I knew the calculation for finding this through the rpm band.

Bit off topic, but i see some of you have the 3.12 pulley. I got the recommended gates belt part number 25 060930, but on the back of the package it says 93 and 5/8 inch. I thought i needed a 93 inch. I thought the stock one was 93 and 1/2 inch. If this was the case the new belt is 1/8 bigger then.....Help.

May be a stupid question, but Booger where did you attach the compressor hose and how? Did you make some sort of fitting? or did you unhook the pipe from the SC and blow from there?

I unhooked the intercooler pipe right before the BOV . I made a capped off pipe with a male air hose hooked up to the end of it . Hooked up the air hose there

Vortech says......says 6 psi @ 4000 rpms. 201 rwh
A little scared about this, thing runs so good now, no bugs, ghosts, or problems.
I would hate to do this s-trim and have a bunch of problems, hope it will tune well also.....Do risks out weigh rewards?

I hardly thing you would have problems....you have beefed up internals. Just find a good tuner.
