For all of you FI newbie's....`
[QUOTE=ccartwright]BE CAREFUL!!!!
I almost wrapped my Z around a tree tonight on the way home from band practice. I was cruising in 3rd, going about 40-45mph, slightly wet road conditions; no standing water or puddles anywhere; when I suddenly got the urge to just punch it, thinking to myself "surely it won't lost traction in 3rd, even on wet roads"....well, almost immediately she lost all traction and I almost lost it...scared the living **** out of me! Well, lesson learned, but I almost learned it the hard way.
Just be careful with your "new found power..."
i think you found the reason i like to drive fast cars. i have done some serious fishtails on hard downshifts into 3rd even stock on the freeway that sent me choppin at the wheel like a fiddle player, but dam that is fun when you pull it off. i used to run an ati at 15psi on stock internals, after it finally blew a little smoke i tore it down. don't try to run the stock internals too hard or it will fail. i had 5 bent rods and 4 of the pistons on those rods had broken ring lands. it still ran (pretty good too) but it was super close to failing. i can't wait to get my motor together and see what it can do, but i am used to high hp cars. so i will scare my friends with it, hahaha.
i ran a set of the ts-1s and they are about the best rain tire i have ever seen. 275-18 on the rear and they held far past what i thought they would. i am running nitto's now and they suck for wet traction at all. keyword here is not really tire traction, but self control. if you want one of the best wet tires, i suggest the toyo's. but honestly, if you push enough horsepower and dump the clutch, no tire will hold. hence the self-control factor. take the car on the track or a big open parking lot and find the traction limit of it first if you question the car. then you will know when it will slide. just trying to give good advice cause i found the traction limit of my Z fishtailing between 2 semi's in a turn on the freeway around a turn after a hard downshift to 3rd in the wet, boy did i get kudos for that move, hahahah.
