Default EGT probe installation.

Is the wall thickness on our stock headers sufficient to drill & tap for an EGT probe, or do you need a bung welded on? Also, is there room to get in there and drill on the #6 cylinder exhaust manifold exit?

Since I'm doing a single turbo install I will not be removing the headers, and I'd like to drill the hole in the proper place a few inches from the head while on the car. Just want to check if this is even possible.

If I have to weld on a bung, or if it's impossible to get in there, I guess I'll do the gimpy thing and mount it in the collector of one side.

Find a way to put it as close to the heads as possible . Only way to get a good usable reading

do some research for us all!!!
put an EGT on the exhaust manifold and one on a downpipe...

i am very curious as to how much higher the actual temp is at the headers compared to where i have it checked at (downpipe)

I tapped a hole on my APS manifold for the EGT probe. You can see it here:

Really neat job. It would be hard to held a bung on cast iron. In my opinion, it's not needed with the APS manifolds. It's located right at the exit of Cyl #6 before the turbo mounting flange, about 2" from the head. This is the ideal location. I will be installing the kit in 2 weeks once I get the G35 supplemental kit.

Later,

I know you can tap a cast manifold, but probably not tubular headers.
